Strollers and WDW Transportation

We are currently debating whether to bring our own double stroller with us or deal with the rentals at the park. Since you can’t take the rentals out of the park we are leaning towards bringing our own.

The biggest question I have is how easy is it to lug a stroller on and off of WDW transportation? This includes DME busses, monorail, regular WDW buses, boats, etc. Our stroller is quite large and bulky when folded.

We are also considering taking the money we would spend on renting a stroller and use it on buying a sleeker, easier to transport double stroller.

Also, does anyone have pictures of the DME buses and the regular WDW buses? We have never been on either.

IMHO (and we have brought a large double stroller each of the last 3 trips):

Lugging on and off Disney transpo is fairly easy. Our double Grayco (sp?) had to be broken down for the bus (obviously, with the steps), and wouldn't quite fit on the monorail while fully locked out. The boats we took, we were able to wheel the empty stroller right on.

I like your idea of taking the rental money and buying a smaller model (i.e. a cheaper, smaller model) for the trip. It would be easier to lug on and off.

Note: The decision on having a stroller for outside the parks depends on lots of variables, i.e. on the ages of the kids, your touring plans, and the transpo options from your resort. If the kids are going to be wiped out before the end of the day, any savings of not renting or buying a stroller could be offset by the pure physical effort needed to carry a sleeping toddler from a park exit, then on a bus ride, and finally back to the room. If you get stuck on a bus and have to stand, it's triple that effort.

I would say buy the sleaker type, don't spend a ton of money on it, and you have the option of wheeling the kids when they are pooped.

I used a evenflo tandem stroller 2yrs in a row and it was a dream. My husband and I both could get it on a bus folded up no problem. The monrail and boats we simply rolled onto. One year we used a graco or safety 1st tandem and had trouble with it on busses. Last year I purchased a chicco side by side and it was very easy, folded like a single umbrella stroller but still reclined fully for naps and so forth. Just to add I find it easier with young kids to have my own stroller. Hope this is helpful. Have a good trip. Amy
