Help me decide what to use for a stroller....

My kids will be just about to turn 6 (50-53 pounds) and just turnned 4 (30-33 pounds). I know we will need a stroller for the 4 y/o (she is a pokey pokey walker) both in the park and definalty walking back to the hotel at night.
6 y/o, would probably jump in a stoller on occasion if it was available, but could also do without.

What can you tell me about the rental strollers from the park?

We are trying to decide if we will rent (free with Visa) or bring a sit and stand or just the umbrella stroller.

Could both fit together in the Disney stroller for a while if they were both beat? How squished would they be?

Or if we brought the umbrella stroller, could DD sit in the rental with the umbralla stoller folded and sitting next to her (we are trying to avoid pushing 2 strollers and leaving neither adult with free hands and quick feet to tend to wandering children who choose walk)

I've never used a sit and stand, so how easy would it be to push both kids in it? Is DS too far over the weight limit of the stroller or could it still be done?

Thank you anyone and everyone who might have any input for me.

When we went last my dd was 9 and we put her in a stroller. She looked a little big for it but it wasn't hard to push at all from what I remember. I wish I could help you on your other questions. Since we only used it for my dd last time and I didn't have to worry about attatching even a diaper bag to it I can't recall with clarity the picture of the stroller. But rest assured the DL stroller experts will chime in soon enough :upsidedow

I've heard the park ones are good, but I'm always paranoid that they'll run out. When we went in 2003 my kids were 6.5 and not quite 4; I brought two single jogging strollers and that worked out perfectly! Although my 6.5yo could have walked, I knew he'd get tired of seeing his sister being pushed around. Plus our hotel was about a mile away, and we walked to and from the park each day.

ETA: I had one stroller and borrowed the other from a mom at school. You can always ask around if you don't have what you need. No reason to spend the $$ on something like that for one trip!

I would get a sit and stand! You have already pointed out some very good reasons for having your own stroller, at night when you are leaving DL you are going to have to leave their stroller there - making the kids walk back to the hotel or even better you or someone carrying your DD back!

If you take your own stroller you can store bags and things you bring to the park without having to carry them around. Also with a sit and stand when your 6 year old gets tired of walking he will have somewhere to sit!! I think sit and stands are easy to push they have nice sized wheels to make this easier!!

I have a big and bulky stroller its big and bulky but it hold my son and other stuff to in the front seat. hes almost 6 and will be in the stroller except when we park it like in FL and walk around to the rides there and what not. hay its better then a cranky kid by end the day
and better then the leashes i thought of getting lol

Are you flying or driving there? Do you already have a sit'n stand?

If you're flying, they're a bit of a pain to check, but you can do it. Sit n' stands are nice options, and you have it for getting back and forth to the parks from your hotel. We loved ours. With the age of your kids, that might be the best option.

You can get 2 strollers for free daily with your Disney visa, so that would be a good option, too. However you say you don't want to both be pushing strollers, which I don't think I'd want to, either.

Another way to do it: If you are flying, and you don't want to haul a big stroller with you, you could just bring a light, cheapie umbrella stroller, and gate-check it. This works well because you can use it getting around the airport. Then you can use it to get to and from your hotel to the parks. Once you get to the parks, you tuck it in a corner over by the stroller rental, and pick up your free rental stroller. The park strollers are large, comfortable joggers with a canopy and a storage basket underneath. Since it's a jogger, it's not really good for 2 kids to squish into. However, each one will accomodate a big kid! DD6 was almost 6 when we went, and she's very tall, but she was quite comfortable. It kind of saved us, because when she gets tired she not only slows everybody down, but she lets us all know how miserable she is, loudly and clearly! ;)

If you go back to the hotel for a midday break, you can go turn in your stroller and pick up your umbrella you left there. When you come back, you will see that many people have abandoned their strollers on the way out, over by the security tables in the esplanade. Just grab one of those abandoned ones, no need to wait in line or show your receipt at the rental place again. Save your nametag from the morning, and put it back in the plastic sleeve. Voila, it's yours.

We tried bringing our light umbrella stroller and using it the first day without renting... it was too hard to push with our big girl in it. We rented after that and were much happier.

If you can, you would do better bringing your own stroller or strollers.
You really couldn't fit 2 older children comfortably in the Disney strollers.
This is an almost 2 year old and she just fits.

How far is your hotel? I plan on renting in the park and carrying my 2yo back to the hotel after a day in the park! :thumbsup2

Hi, I wanted to chime in about the stroller thru the airport, if indeed you are flying. We actually have always taken our stroller with us on trips and let me tell you, it's good to have the stroller for a "Pack Mule". It carries our carry ons and a car seat, whatever you have, you can cram in! We gate check even our big stroller, never a problem, and it's waiting for us when we get off the plane, then it's not considered baggage to check.

Just a tip that has worked well for us!

Also, I would take a sit and stand, that would solve all your problems with pushing 2 kids at one time, one stroller. We are taking our double stroller for our 3 and 5 year old. You will have it for the end of the day walk back to the hotel with sleepy kids:)

You seriously put a 9 year old in a stroller?? Now THAT I have got to see. Photo please.

Get a Peg Perego Pliko P3. It has a great front seat for the younger one and a small spot to stand for your older one and it folds up almost as small as an umbrella stroller. If for some reason your 6yo wants to sit rather than stand (if she gets really tired) then you can rent one for a bit. But otherwise you're good and if the 6yo gets tired of walking you can have her stand on the back and push both of them. You can usually find last year's Plikos for good prices at albeebaby.com.

Thank you all.

Yes we are flying.

I will have to look up the Peg Perego Pliko P3, I am guess it will be more than I am willing to spend. But definalty worth a look.

We do not yet have a sit and stand, I am looking at one on our local craigslist listings. And or hoping I find a friend who has one I can borrow.

As for now, as long as no one thinks that a sit and stand (or the like) will be too hard to push with both kids in it, than I think that is the way we will go.

And thank you for the pictures. I had not pictured the rentals as actual cloth joggers, like I could buy at the stores, but rather the hard plastic ones like at DW.

Thank you THank you .I just love this board!!!

Do you have your kid walk 45 miles a day, plus 1 mile to your hotel?

I don't have children yet.

45 miles? You sure about that?

When I was 6, 10, and 14 I managed to walk all over The Magic Kingdom and Epcot for 4 days with no stroller. So did my siblings and cousins of various ages.

9 years old...that's a 4th grader, right?

I mean, it's one thing if a child has a disablity or something of the sort...then that makes total sense to me. But a perfectly healthy 9 year old in a stroller is definitely something I want to see a photo of.

Oh my, trust me, if you could get me to fit into a stroller, I would be in it. Trust me, that would be quite the site though :rotfl:

At DW (yes the only place I have been so far) I saw tweens, and maybe even teens in those stroller.

Yeah...that's a little odd to me, I guess.

EDIT - Oh yeah....and if you (or any other adult) gets into a stroller...that's another one I want to see a photo of...haha. Too funny.

If I knew how to post a picture I'd send you the one my family took of me taking a nap in one of the strollers.. No one tried to push me but I got cozy in it and had a nice 30 min nap next to my little one in the stroller next to me...

Impressive. I don't think I'd fit in a stroller. Maybe 20 pounds ago though...haha.

I wanna be pushed in a stroller too hehe. Ok we are bringing DN who is 9 and he will not be in a stroller, he is old enough to walk or lie down on a bench if he needs a rest. We will however, be using our Maclaren Volo for my 2 1/2 yr old. I do NOT want to carry her from the park to the hotel. Actually, it would be DH carrying her but I just thought it would be nice to push her from Hojo's to the main gate and not have to deal wtih the strollers at DL. Although they look very nice, so we'll see how she does and go from there.

I will gladly do that, because I really do have one  ,but I don't know how to post a pic in a post. So someone please help me out and I will post it. Thanks! :thumbsup2
