What you want for a stroller is something comfortable for your child, easy for you to manipulate on and off the buses and some rides, and is comfortable to push for hours and hours. We had two children (ages 3 and 18 mos) and took two Chicco umbrella-type strollers. They also had canopies and one of the strollers had a big basket. Both strollers reclined somewhat, but not flat.
We also carried a big backpack and didn't rely on the basket underneath just because you don't want to be bogged down with picking up a lot of stuff every time you need to park the stroller to get into line. We kept plastic ponchos in the basket to throw over the strollers during rain showers, a travel packet of wipes and a few extra diapers. We were able to leave it all in the basket whenever we left the stroller or even when we folded it up.
Consider your adult to child ratio too because if you have to carry a sleeping child onto a bus, you don't want the adult carrying everything else to be overloaded with bags, jackets, and a bulky stroller. We luckily had carrying straps on the strollers so you could wear it over your shoulder.
We sprayed Scotch-guard all over our strollers which doesn't prevent the rain from soaking in, but makes spilled ice cream easier to clean off.
My last suggestion would be to take the stroller and child on a test run to a camper or boat show, a large mall or some event that will require you to walk with the child for at least two hours and put the child in and out of the stroller repeatedly. You may discover that your back hurts from pushing it or you break nails trying to buckle the straps.
