Our rule is 6 and your out. We brought 2 umberella strollers last time for DD5 and DS3. We are planning on bringing 1 stroller for DD2, but for that age we bring a reclining stroller for naps or being out tooooo late.

When we go out walking as a family, I always tell them, "This will help you get your Disney Legs!!!". We are slowly building up their stamina.

I have told my boys (age 5.75) ahead of time - we will get strollers for the big walking days (epcot) but that they will be walking the rest of the time we are at disney. my dd2.5 will have a strollers.

Is handling two umbrella strollers really easier than one double?
Do the disney busses put the stroller in the luggage compartment under bus or do you have to haul it on the bus with you?

I have DD's 4yrs and 18 months: We have a Front/back double stroller, a single Coombi and a single MaClaren quest.....what to take?

Finally, the last time we gate checked our stroller 3 years ago, the airline beat the crap out of it. So, my wife is a little gunshy about taking the new Mac quest to the gate. Any thoughts?

Good question. I'm not sure about two strollers but, I do know that the big cumbersome strollers sure look like a problem (we use a Chicco Caddy, its a nice stroller for the $$). Not to mention, they take up alot of room on the bus, which is irritating when its full and everyone is hot and tired. Bottom line, 2 singles or a double, make sure it folds up quickly and small.

You haul it on the bus with you. And you haul quickly or you get dirty looks from passengers, and you fold it up yourself, while trying to juggle the baby, the diaperbag, the toddler, and the whiny six year old. And then there are no seats left on the bus and everyone avoids your eye to avoid giving you a seat, so you stand holding the baby, while your husband holds the toddler and balances the stroller with his other hand and your six year old whines. On the other end, you get off the bus and hope the bus empties before you need to get off, because leaving the crowded bus with a stroller, diaperbag and three kids is challenging...

OK, maybe it isn't that bad, but we rented our strollers, and a big reason was strollers on buses. We also took a lot of cabs - we don't drive on vacation if we can help it. And we've had great luck with someone giving up their seat with little ones - often one toddler on each of my knees or two toddlers sharing a seat while I stood - but at least they weren't standing - but occationally all the seats have been taken with families with little ones or the elderly, then you decide if you will stand or wait for the next bus.

I wonder if the stoller companies keep making bigger strollers if in a few years we will hear "should I bring a stroller for my twelve year old" (now, bringing a stroller for me at Pleasure Island so my husband can wheel me back to the resort........).



There was a time pre-children (and a few after!) that this would have been a great idea!!!

we leave in 11 days!!!! -- oh, yeah - we're renting for the week - our almost 2 year old is just not marathon material yet!!! - but the 6 and 8 year old are on their own!!! I don't pay for gymnastics and basketball classes for nothing - USE THOSE MUSCLES!!!! (of course, I will be the one dragging up the rear, or will that be my rear dragging behind us!!!

We took two umbrellas and a set of stroller connectors on our last trip. My twins were were not quite 3. DH and I could each take one child to the restroom. It was easier to maneuver through crowds and yes, definitely easier on the buses and monorails.

Occasionally we would connect to the two strollers and take turns riding some big kid rides while the other pushed both boys.

I've been pondering stroller usage as well.

We are going in April. By then my daughter will be almost 2 and my son will be almost 5. I will take 1 umbrella stroller and consider renting a double stroller when we get there. I won't bring any kind of stroller for my son - at 42 pounds he exceeds the wieght limits for most. He wouldn't be comfortable, and I would worry about his safety.

I'm going to see how he does before renting the double (my understanding being that they are designed to be able to carry more weight). He is very active anyway, so he may actually prefer to walk. If not, that's ok too. We'll just be flexable about it.

Another vote for 8 year old walking unless there is a medical reason! My twins are 7 and they will be 8 when we go in Feb. They have been walking at DW since they were 5. - That was actually not planned but I forgot to put the umbrella strollers in the car. When we got to the airport I realized they were back in the garage. I was really upset but the boys wanted to know why we would be bringing strollers. They told me that they don't use strollers any more! IT ended up being a great trip without them!
