Stringrays castaway cay

Has anyone ever done stingsray on cc? I have a 6 yr old do you think she would like it ?

It depends on your child. We have not done this personally, but the stingrays come up and eat a morsel from your fingertips. There are videos so you can see the experience and decide.

We did it on our first cruise - mum, dad and 3 boys (9, 11 and 14). All enjoyed it. As well as getting to feed the rays, you can also snorkel around with them for quite a while. Pretty neat to watch them moving around in the water. We were all glad we did it - we didn't do it on the second cruise as we had "already done that".

Depends on your daughter - as long as she is a little bit adventurous or interested in animals I think she will enjoy it (that said you will be the best judge!).

Hope that helps! :)

Agree with PP; it greatly depends on your child.

Feeding the rays is optional. Some kids love it, others are frightened of it. You hold a food pellet upright in your fingers and place your palm flat in the tray. The ray comes over your hand and sucks up the pellet. It feels like a vacuum cleaner, but to a child it might appear the ray is eating their fingers.

When you go into deeper water to swim with the rays will come at you from all sides in search of food. Reminded me of my dogs asking for treats. It can be startling at first.

I did it with two six year olds last year. One loved it and was swimming off into deep water after the Rays, the other was terrified and couldn't wait to get out of the water. Really depends on the kid, but I think it's worth trying if you think your kid might like it. The feeding happens in water that is about up to a kid's waist.

I agree it depends on your child. DS was 7 when we did this excursion. He is fearless, not afraid to touch animals and is a great swimmer so he enjoyed it. He swims with a mask often and has used the mouthpiece before just playing in the pool, so had no problems snorkeling. The stingrays did not come at us while snorkeling, they were all in the sand.
DD was too young at the time so we didn't bring her, but even now I would not. She is a timid child, frightens easily, and even though she swims well, she does not like her head/face to go underwater. She wouldn't do well with either part, so I know this would not be the best excursion for her. I did see a couple of children waiting on the beach with one parent during the snorkeling portion and they seemed pretty content playing in the sand and shallow water, so if your child doesn't do well snorkeling they do have a place to go. You could alternate adults so each of you has time in the water. And even without the snorkeling, just feeding the stingrays was fun enough in itself.
