Stressed out about packing

Mayz, I took a look at your photos from the 4 suitcases---I have to say, I think I'm most impressed with the fact that you fit a carseat in one of the bags! Definitely great compression that you have going....:thumbsup2

I've been packing since Jan 2nd and we don't leave until Jan 22nd :rotfl:

This time I decided to write every single thing down that I put in the suitcases, then I won't have to rummage around right before we go wondering if I remembered to pack a certain item. :thumbsup2

I think we will have 4 checked suitcases for 3 people too but one will be for the booster seat and 2 of our carryon bags. We're coming from Canada and the restrictions on carry on bags might still be in effect when we fly so I want extra room in one suitcase just in case. On the way back I'm sure it will be filled with souvenirs ;)

I'm not sure how I'm going to fit all of our paperwork, snacks and stuff to keep DD5 busy on the flight in a "small" purse (apparently all that's allowed). DH has to figure our how to fit his laptop, camera, video camera, ipod, and portable DVD in his bag of electronics :scared1:

Oh well coming back will be easier I'm sure  We'll do anything to get to Disney :goodvibes

We're flying Airtran this time around too, so we're trying to cram everything into one checked bag, and the carry-ons. At least that's the theory, we'll see how it actually works out once I start packing. :rotfl2: I did tell DH to get the luggage out, and I'd start throwing stuff in there so we can see how it goes. We bought a rolling duffel the last time we were there, that folds pretty compactly, so he wants to cram it in the bag for the way there, in case we buy extra things on the way back. Can't blame him for being prepared for purchases :rotfl: Don't know how successful we'll be with 2 adults & one toddler cramming into one checked back for a 8 day/7 night trip, but I guess we'll see :confused3

Tried that ... didn't work LOL Got out the BIG suitcase, folded the disney duffle in it for the way back ... packed all of our clothes but wasn't done packing yet so decided to weight it ... 49 lbs!!!!! Since Airtran charges a $49 overweight fee for over 50 lb it's cheaper to check 2 bags ... so now have to decide on getting another big suitcase or packing up the rolling duffle and hoping we don't have too much stuff to bring back :rotfl2: Back up plan is to ship all souveniors (sp?!) the day before we leave :rolleyes1

I have a few more last minute things to pack Saturday morning. So far we are 2 bags to check plus car seat bag with car seat for DD 8 mos. and booster DD 6 (I tossed around renting when we get the car but DH is worried we won't be able to get anything so he wants to take them). DH is carrying-on a backpack with our laptop plus extra diapers and wipes. I am carrying-on a backpack with diapers, wipes, formula and bottles and baby food. DD 6 is carrying-on her backpack with her lovey, her DS, and my ipod to watch movies. We are also gate checking our stroller. I was going to take the Mac but now I think I'm going to take the Chicco Cortina because the bag underneath is bigger plus it has a tray and the sun shade covers more.

At times like this .... I sometimes wish we were driving LOL

I don't use my ipod a lot but is it possible your DH could put the dvds on there, or on your laptop, and then you wouldn't have to take the portable dvd player too? I don't remember how much they cost but I put some tv shows from itunes on my ipod for DD on our flight so we don't have to carry the dvd player. Just a thought :)

Good Luck and have a great trip!!!! :wizard:

Yeahhhh....remember when I said earlier I was going to start trying to pack when I got home from work? Got home, went to dinner with friends, and just got back about an hour ago....put DD down for bed, changed into jammies myself, and now I'm thinking to myself, "Do I really want to go all the way to the basement, bring the bag up, set it up, and start tossing stuff in??" Our house is not big by any means either....I think I'm just really tired today....

Over dinner today, I think we decided as much as we want to minimize the luggage, we might have to come to terms with checking 2 bags. That weight restriction keeps freaking me out. Maybe we'll just check in a smaller, carry-on sized bag, and not a full-size luggage.

Ahh well. I'm off to internally debate on whether to start tonight or not, and I'm sure I'll fill you guys in tomorrow while I'm at work (during authorized break times, of course) :rolleyes1

With regards to the weather, all I have to say is - for once I am glad I'm driving! I can bring a bit of everything.

Still, I'm with the rest of you. We don't leave until the 28th, but usually I am in full packing mode by now.

This trip is a surprise, which makes it especially hard. We each only have so many outfits. Unless we all want to be forced into wearing the same to outfits for the next few weeks (and tell my kids that the rest of their clothes got up and walked away), I'm going to have to wait until the very end.

I hate waiting until the last minute!

Thankfully we are taking our RV - So I can pack extra, but my kids are 1 and 4 so I am a stress bomb about clothes. They won't be walking...to create warmth...they will be in and out of a stroller all day.
I too was planning on the capri pants, sweaters and layers....but my husband or myself will be pushing a double stroller and sure to be nice and toasty.
This weather is making it near impossible to plan ahead - which is essential.
Your not the only one.
I am going to wait til next week and see if the weather balances out. Also there is a 21 day forcast at weatherchannel.com that might help you too.
Good luck and have a blast! It will be our first trip there - so we are all totally excited!

We will be there at the same time you are (leaving in 13 days) and I finally started getting down to real packing yesterday.

I only have 1 child, but with in park items, snacks, metal water bottles, things to keep him entertained in the room, electronics, etc..... I really started stressing as well. We're up to 4 checked bags for 3 people! That's insane. Of course, we have 1 suitcase just with stuffed animals (what can I say, I'm a sucker). He bought them at DW over his lifetime and thinks they all need to visit their home. Cute, so I fell for it!

For clothing, I'm packing:
2 pr pants each (3 for me cause I'm special)
2 or 3 pr shorts each (I'm being optimistic)
light jackets that we'll wear from home
5 or 6 short sleeved shirts
2 or 3 long sleeved shirts (can be layered under or over short ones)
1 sweater each
Keens, flip flops and tennies for each (and Uggs for me)
gloves and hats just in case (and they don't take up any room)
bathing suits because we'll swim no matter what
cover ups and towels

I keep looking at the weather and hoping. We've been 2 other times in the winter and were fortunate enough to wear shorts every day.

Good luck getting it together!:)

Excellent list :thumbsup2especially for this time of year in Florida, the weather can be a bit tricky!

you might as well go ahead and packs hats, gloves, scarves, and as someone mentioned in another post, take blankets for the metal seats at F! and for the parades...because if this cold spell sets in....you will get cold

if it makes you feel any better - we are leaving on saturday and i am finally just starting to pack tonight (wed). i had planned to start sooner but had a family emergency and have spent each night this week in the hospital. not positive we are going to be able to go but we're packing just in case - we are very hopeful! :)

Really? I'm trying to find it, and for the life of me, the most I can find is a 10 day forecast. I know things are always subject to change, but it'd be nice to see what they're thinking right now. I did find averages and record temps for the month. Good thoughts for warm weather!! :goodvibes We've never gone in January before and given our current weather at home, I think I can deal with colder temps, but I'm *not* looking forward to any rain. What are the chances of rain at the end of the month?

I'm so sorry to hear this! I'm praying that everything will be okay for you guys and that you will be able to make your trip!

Accuweather has a 15 day. It's showing 70 on our first day, the 19th. It's showing 72 on the 20th! If only that could hold true. Please, please, please!!!!!!!

I don't think I'd even count on a 10 day forcast. That can change so quickly! But hey, if it shows good weather, I'd want to believe it too!!!! With all this crap they're getting now, it should be tropical by the 28th right? :cloud9:

Oh, believe me, I'm probably going to be re-packing based on weather up until the day before, but I like to see the weather forecast so I can daydream about how warm the FL weather is compared to good 'ol suburban Chicago. :rotfl:

Warm weather in 15 days!! *hopefully* :woohoo:

I agree! I'll take whatever they say cus it's warmer than it is now!

We have -15 here today, so anything in Florida will, indeed, feel like a heat wave. My hubby works outside, so he'll enjoy 8 days of thawing out on his vacation!

Tomorrow we can do the online check-in, and I'm SO excited!

Started preliminary packing, and as predicted, I don't think we'll be able to cram everything into just one checked bag, and still meet the weight requirement for AirTran  Oh well...bringing a 2nd bag just means more room for purchases, right?? :rolleyes1

As for packing, so far the weather looks AWESOME, and it's kind of throwing me off! I know, I know, I'm never happy...I'm back to Square 1 with what to pack! I was going stick with jeans, layering tees, tshirts, and jackets...now that the weather says high 70s, I'm wondering if I should throw in some sleeveless shirts as well. I'll probably stick with jeans (or capris, if anything) for the bottoms...

It's definitely a good problem to have though, :woohoo:and I guess I'll just have to wait until we get closer and the weather firms up a bit. How's everyone else doing with their packing?

I know. The weather is going to be so warm and wonderful. The funny thing is, I was packed. Now, I have to take out all the long sleeves and jeans and start over. But, it's not a problem I will complain about. I will take packing twice and having 80 degrees to what those poor people had this weekend!

This is going to be sooooo amazing!:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:
