Strategy for walking to parks from Super 8

Hello!
We got such a fantastic rate on this place for October that I could not resist. Now I am looking at it trying to figure out the shortest route. If we exit the front and walk down Katella and up Harbor, then the distance is about .66 miles. But it looks like if you could exit out the back of the property, then you would be a lot closer. Is this possible?

Also, what are room recommendations, if you want reasonable quiet, close exit to shorten walk to park, and somewhat close proximity to breakfast room, although this is not the most important factor.

Anyone tell me where the Garden Walk is? Is that the buildings behind the hotel? Has anyone used the Disney Shuttle to get to and from this hotel?

Looking at google, it looks like the Super 8 is actually two buildings.

And what about ART? It looks like about 4 of the lines would serve this location? Is that correct?

Sorry for all the questions, I am just totally out of my element here.

Thanks so much.
Tracey

If your this concerned over a litttle walk, chances are your the kind of person who can use the walking :rotfl2:

This is the hotel I stay at most of the time due to the great rates you can get there. I am actually there next Monday to Friday!

But it looks like if you could exit out the back of the property, then you would be a lot closer. Is this possible?
No, there is no exit out the back of the grounds. You can only go out the front, onto the sidewalk on Katella

The breakfast is served in the building closest to the street, right nest to the pool. I THINK that the first building is mostly single king rooms and the other building is all the 2 bed rooms, but i could be wrong on that. Noise has never been an issue for me.

Garden Walk is next to the hotel on Katella. I guess it would be to the East.

Correct.

I have always walked, but People have been getting on the ART just down Katella (towards the park, in front of the Holiday Inn I believe).

If you have any other questions, please ask. I will try to take pictures next week and post a trip report for you if will help visualize where things are. The first time I went, I also did google maps and zoomed in on the satellite view to check things out.

Have a great trip!

I don't know that my input will help much (we stayed there nearly 10 years ago long before ART), BUT dh and I took his little brother with us who was 8 at the time. While his brother was tired at the end of each day, it wasn't an impossible walk back. We usually grabbed a treat/drink specifically for that walk back - nice distraction!

Why don't you try taking the kids for that length of walk and see how they deal with it? While my kids could cope with that walk, DD8 would definitely be whining about walking back if she were tired. Since you have the ART option up your sleeve, I think it would be okay.

You also have a great little strip mall at the corner of Katella and Harbor.

It has a Subway, pizza place, chinese restaurant, ice cream shop, donut place, and of course a liquor store for stressed out parents! :) I have only been to the pizza place and Subway, but both were good and cheaper than eating in the park as well as convienent for late night snacking since I think they are open 24 hours. 7-11 is across the street from there.

The breakfast at the hotel has coffee, but if you need a fix, there are a couple shops in Garden Walk.

Thank you all. I just knew that there would be some wonderful dis folks with this knowledge. I feel more prepared now. I have stayed at The Candy Cane Inn, and that walk was just fine, but I had a stroller and a 3 year old. I also stayed at HOJO and found that walk fine, even with my little one, but he did get a few shoulder rides from Dad at the end of the night. Dad won't be on this trip and given that he has grown to 70 pounds and will be nearly 7, a shoulder ride won't be happening. But, I think the walk will be okay for them most of the time, and when it's not, we can grab a taxi or ART. It is just a 3 day trip, so they won't get too tired.

I have been to the strip mall on Harbor. For my son, it was the Mexican restaurant and bean burritos that cost about $2. He loved those things! Also hit up the Subway.

I actually train for the extra walking, as I really like to spend long days at the parks, but I do worry about the kids.

Thanks again everyone.

The distance from the Super 8 is about the same as walking to the middle of the Mickey and Friends parking garage if you've ever done that. We walk to and from the garage all the time (easier to do with a stroller) so when we stayed at the Super 8 last April I did a little research and discovered it's about the same distance.

Also, when we stayed at the super 8 our two nephews were with us who are 10 and 13 and they didn't seem to have any trouble with the walk. After we came back from our trip I heard about the GardenWalk shuttle and wondered if we could have taken it over but really, the walk wasn't bad.

Have a great trip!

Just a side note here about the chinese place in that strip mall . . . I tried it in June and it was fairly good. I really liked the egg rolls. It's set up kind of like the chinese fast foods in malls so the food was ready. It might be hit or miss but I'd be willing to try it again. :thumbsup2

Seriously??? Did you have a bad day and decide to make ALL CM's look bad?? You really need to think before you post......

I haven't stayed at this Super 8 but we have stayed and walked from the Peacock. Not with the girls tho, with the girls if we are farther away than the HoJo we drive and park. HoJo/CCI are as far out as I really want to walk...altho we did walk from the Castle Inn 1 nite.....

I am curious how this motel is tho, we haven't stayed here yet.....OP will you report in if you stay there. Oh and taking a taxi is very easy and pretty cheap. We've taken a taxi back to the Peacock after walking in the morning, cost us about $7, we just grabbed one of the drivers that sits in the pick up area next to Harbor. :)
