I just got back from my first Disneyland trip on April 6. It was fabulous!!!! :) We spent 5 nights at the Disneyland Hotel. Oh my goodness, it was perfect! We loved everything about it....except the bathroom! This is probably going to sound really strange but I'm going to ask it anyway! :lmao: Did we just get a bizarre room or are all the shower heads impossibly low? I am 5'-7'' and I had to majorly lean down to be able to rinse my hair in the shower. My male friend who was with us found it nearly impossible to shower in that shower. The shower head looked like it was positioned for an 8 year old!! My sister is only 5'-4'' and even she had trouble. So...what's up with the showers?! popcorn::

Oh, and we were in room 2507 in the Magic Tower. I'd stay in that room with the goofy shower again just to have that fireworks view.

It sounds like the hand held showers used in the disabled accessible rooms. Maybe someone else has a better answer. If nobody responds I can call the hotel for you and ask.

They weren't disabled hand helds, they are just low. Curiously low.

You aren't the only folks who have said something about that.... ;)

We are here (there?) right now and I thought exactly the same thing! At 5'7" I feel like a giant mutant! I cannot imagine how a 6' + person would feel...

I feel validated!!!! We were so tempted to ask people sitting next to us at the pool if the showers were the same in their room or even go ask at the front desk. It was just so very unusual!! My sister suggested that perhaps it was because the hotel was built a long time ago. So everyone back in the day was five foot nothing?? :rotfl: What a very unusual situation! I wonder why they don't modify it. :scratchin

I am 5'5" and yes they are low, weve stayed in various rooms, they all seem low. I have no clue how DH took a comfortable shower in there. . . great for shorter people though!

Haha!! We just got back last week from our first visit to Dl and stayed at DLR. Our running joke all week was that they must have built the showers for the 7 Dwarfs!! Horrible!!...my son and I are 5'9", and struggled greatly to use those showers...also, ours had a very touchy hot/cold system and it was nearly impossible to get a nice warm flow. We too loved everything about the hotel except that horrible shower! Misery loves company - glad we werent' the only ones ;)

Ours did as well. It was either scalding or freezing. And it would be fine one second and then all of a sudden it was waaay too hot/cold and you hadn't even touched the handles to adjust the temp!

Maybe this was all part of Walt's original concept so now they're hesitant to change it. ;)

So does anyone have any guesses or theories on why the showers are like this?

Were you staying in the tower with the front desk/reception area? We were there in February and the water temperature issue was so bad that they comp'ed us one night. My DD's were scalded a couple of times pretty badly...the lead at the front desk told me to shower them at the pool if it seemed dangerous  I waited until her shift was over to speak with someone different at the front desk about it and fortunately that lead was much nicer.

BTW, the man in engineering who came to our room to check it out told me that the pumps in that tower were the cause of the fluctuating water temperature and not to expect it to be repaired any time soon.

When I was in college my dorm showers were like this and the dorm was built in the early '70s. This is what we were told...

Back in the day women did not wash their own hair, they went to the beauty parlor to have their hair done. Shower heads were installed low so that water wouldn't be spraying on top of their heads.

Maybe that's what's going on at the DLH?

I'm not sure if that is the story behind the DLH but it is very interesting.

I was 25 in 1970 and let me assure you that women did wash their own hair!!! However, they did not wash it every day like they do now. We just used a "shower cap" to keep our hair dry in between weekly or bi-weekly washings.

Same with me and I remember the shower caps.

I remember shower caps too! I remember my mom going to the beauty shop (as she called it) every Friday. She'd have an Aquanet helmet lol. I honestly don't remember her washing her hair at home until I was older...maybe 10 or so. (I'm 41 btw.)

Anyone else remember the bathing/swim caps w/the BIG flowers and chin straps?

Did you grow up in my house - my grandmother, great aunt, and mom all sis the once a week beauty parlor.

I also had one of those swim caps....

And I'm 42...

Those towers were built in that same time frame - they are not part of the very original hotel - which was comprised mostly of bungalows. I would believe that there is something to that shower theory of not wanting ladies to get their hair wet.

Too small for someone who is 5'7"? :scared1:

If you're at DL in December, just look for the really tall smelly guy.;)

That's a great theory and may be somewhat true, but what about the men? They weren't supposed to wash their hair?

I grew up in So. Cal and always wanted to stay at the DL Hotel as a child. But we lived so close that my parents wouldn't have even considered it. The first time I stayed there was in my early 20s for a wedding. Couldn't believe how low the shower heads were.

Still are.
Our last stay at the DLH was less than impressive, especially for the rates we paid. When we choose to stay on site we stay at the GCH. It's a far superior hotel, hands down. More expensive tho. So we only stay on site off season.

Maybe it depends on the tower yuor room is in. I had read comments about the low showers before last years trip, but was surprised that our bathroom did not have a low shower head at all. I am 5'7 and it was definitely over my head. Our water pressure was great as well. We were in the Dreams tower top floor. Like the OP mentioned, I would have lost out if I had stayed anywhere else, I absolutely love DLH if not only for the awesome view!

Yes, I noticed the crazy low shower heads also when we stayed there last year. We recently stayed at the PPH and I went straight to the bathroom to compare showerheads I said to myself ("ohh, thank god!) a much higher showerhead!:thumbsup2

:hippie:
