I am planning to go to Disney for F&W next fall with my 2 best girlfriends :cheer2:, and 2 of us need scooters. I know if we get a family suite not only will we be able to each have our own bed, but there will be no problem fitting 2 scooters in the room. If we choose to save the $700 plus and 2 of us share a bed at Port Orleans French Quarter, will we be able to fit 2 scooters in the room? I don't really care about being a bit crowded, it isn't like we will be spending all that much time in the room anyhow, but I am not sure there is room to part them.

Thanks!
Amy

I would call the hotel and ask them about their scooter parking policy. When DH and I stayed at the Grand Floridian and both rented scooters they told us to just park them outside our room in the hallway next to an outlet. Since we kept the keys, they were relatively secure. When we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel we left the scooters with bell services and they plugged them in to recharge overnight and brought them out for us each morning. They considered parking in the hallway a fire hazard, but the Grand Californian didn't have a problem with it. In other words, different Disney hotels have different policies.

I just stayed at All Star Movies with one scooter in a two double beds room and it would have been tight but we could have gotten a second scooter in the room if necessary.

In 3 weeks, I will be staying at All Star Music (king bed this time) and plan to have two scooters in the room.

I wasn't sure--we did Pop last spring with my DH, DD9 and DD26 and my scooter, and it was a bit tight--we were also in on a fridge exchange too, so that took up a bit of room. I know the moderate rooms are bigger, but I am not sure how much of that is really space, and how much is bathroom/dresser/table being bigger. I am going to try to convince them to go for the cheaper room--I would rather have money to spend on christmas shopping than on a more expensive room--and I don't mind sharing a bed--I know from experience we will be exhausted and it won't matter. One of the women hasn't been there since 1974 and the other has never been, so they don't really have a clue what they are in for! Needless to say, the planning is pretty much left up to me.

My mom and I stayed at POFQ and both used a scooter. It was worked fine. It was a bit crowded but not a big deal.

If you find it is too crowded, you can also call Housekeeping and have them remove some furniture - some people do remove the table or chairs.

Another option is having Bell Services keep your scooters for you. That does involve a trip to Bell Services at the beginning and end of the day, but for some people, it is a good option.

All of the Value and Moderate resorts have outside hallways, so I would not park the scooters outside of the room. They could potentially get rained on.

Keep in mind that if you call the resort, you will not actually get the resort. Calls are routed to a call center where the CMs answer as if they were at the resort. So, sometimes, the advice given when you call is not the same you will get if you actually ask at the desk when you arrive.

Wow!! I didn't know you could have furniture removed--that is awesome. If we could have the bench taken out, it would give us all the room we would need I think! I really want to do the moderate just because of the cost savings, and the more facts I have, the better chance I have of talking them into it!

I wanted to make sure you know that there's only one actual bed in a family suite- there's fold out furniture that sleeps more, but just the one bed.

This is what we were told in May 2007 when we had a scooter with us at SSR. It worked fine, no problem, until one day when the outlet we'd been using no longer worked. Then we just used an outlet further down the corridor.

was no problem getting two scooters in the room at POR . we have since then went to POP Century and we can also get two scooters that room as well. if four of us go however we get two connecting rooms and then have four beds and two baths...:cool1:

Just make sure you know where water may drain to when it rains. We’ve been to SSR several times and even though the outdoor corridors are covered, some of them may have a significant amount of water going into them, depending on which way the rain blows and how hard it rains.
We were on 2nd floor one time in Congress Park and found the corridor outside our room to have water running down it.

I think this is because the DLH is much older and has much narrower corridors. The hotels probably all have the same policy of "comply with the fire marshal's rules" but some were built with a better idea of what might be needed as far as exceeding those rules to accommodate scooters.

If it were me, I'd rather have my mobility device in my room rather than out in a covered corridor. I just worry about little hands and curiosity and Sue mentioned an important point about rain. It probably will make a difference as to what footprint the scooters have as there are some that take up very little space and some that are quite large. At any rate, at least they'll fit in a room at POR if you choose to stay there. ---Kathy
