Strange Pal Mickey Question...

I have the older version of Pal Mickey and I know he will not update with any of the new ride information, but I want him to. I know I cannot have everything I want, but I asked Disney why and they said it was because he does not have enough memory to include all the new information.

I know I could buy a new Pal Mickey, but I just can't do that I like this one. I know I am strange.

However, what I want to know is has anyone tried to upgrade Mickey's hardware? I mean replace his existing memory chip with a larger one?

I know a long shot, but if so did he work in the parks after you had him reset. Does he have any loader information that I would need to get programmed into?

I am not trying to deceive Disney or save money. I just want my current Pal Mickey to do everything. He's not just a doll he's my friend.

if you find out mmore please let me know we toyed with the idea of buying a new one but it seemed so disloyal!!!!
Our old mickey shook for a n hour or more when we first took him into a park this year and we were told he was automatically updating himself but that there are some things the new one can do that he can't. i must admit It was refreshing to hear a few new jokes after new yaers of the old ones!!

Why don't you buy a new one, and still carry the old one also. Then you won't feel like you're just discarding poor "old" Mickey. He'll be along for the trip too, for fun and you'll have the new Mickey for info. Maybe you can get them matching outfits and they'll be twin Mickey's. We have the new one and I thought they said you could take them into any store and they would update them, but maybe not. I know how you feel about Mickey being not just a doll. I went to put ours in the suitcase so we won't forget him next trip, and I couldn't even zip him up in there. His cute little smiling face was a reminder of the fun we had while we were there. So he's sitting on top of the suitcase now, waiting for our next trip "home". Good luck with your dilema.

I would love to know the answer to that question too!! It would be great if they offered some place in the park that did that!! or even the disney stores.

I do not think Disney offers it as yet, but I am willing to experiment. Does anyone know the bill of materials for Mickey. I doubt it, but it never hurts to ask.

Well I think I may have the answer for you. I took my old pal mickey into the photo shop on Main Street in MK when we were there last week, and told them he wasn't acting right. I wasn't getting all the information like before. So the guy took him apart for me and plugged him into the PDA looking thing in the drawer and Bibbidee Bobbidee Boo he was all updated.
There really wasn't anything wrong with him but I saw it on another thread that they took him in and had him updated so I tried it. It seemed like he got all the rides the only thing I didn't hear and maybe that was because we were in the Fast pass line, was the Trembling act he puts on at TToT.
So I guess you can give it a try.
Good luck!

I second that! You can update pal mickey when you return. We've had him reset about 3 times already..

So does your old Pal Mickey give you information about Soarin' or RnRC? If I get mine updated, will he start talking about Expedition Everest?

I bought an old Pal Mickey off eBay (haven't taken him to the parks yet), but my understanding is that he wouldn't interact with any attractions that were built after he was, or say any of the new phrases. Will my old Pal Mickey repeat the exact same things as a new Pal Mickey would have?!

Nope.. old Pal Mickey's will not tell you about the new attractions EVEN if he is updated at the park. I had him updated when I was there last week.. and when we pass stitch. he still tells me about Alien Encounter! .. Guess he wishes it was still there too!! LOL! LOL!! I was toying with the idea of getting a new pal mickey.. and just switching the insides... see if they fit.. but I too have that "attachment" to this old mickey! I think I will just wait till they come out with the pooh they keep talking about...except he may talk in French!! Hmmmm... maybe I can become bilingual! :)

How much is the new Pal Mickey? Were can he be purchased? Can you still rent them? Thanks

I also would like to wait for a new character before buying a new one. I second the pooh minus the french.

I think the new PM is around $75-, he's in a tux (for HCOE) & comes with a lanyard. WDW no longer rents him - only available to purchase.

I took my old Pal Mickey to MK yesterday and he told me about Cindercellabration. I have never had him updated and I bought him right after they were first released.

Maybe shows are an exception, but according to Disney (I asked) Old Pal Mickey cannot receive any of the new RIDE information.

So I opened Pal Mickey up to look at the components. Hmmmm. Anyone know what a C226 IC is?

Someone told me that there is a strong chance that Pal Mickey's memory is onboard the processor chip. Can anyone confirm this?

I am trying not to give hope on upgrading him myself.

What year is considered old? I have one from Feb 2004. He sits on DD shelf just waiting to go back home! I couldn't bear to not bring him with us.

Mine is from March 2004 and is considered the old one. The new one was released I think in 2005 to celebrate.

Ours still works, so I would definately still bring yours, but he will not have the new rides, like Soarin, according to Disney.
