Strange comment said to me at work

Hi Rick, I just showed your story to a friend that came in to my office today. Her husband is a tax law prof, and he reserved comment. She is a Lawyer and a sales personnel manages for a fortune 500 company.

She said to document everything. Make a log and mark when comments were made, and keep it. Also, you can buy a small voice recorder that fits in your pocket in order to record what she says.

It sounds like it has surpassed the point of being called harassment (from what you have said) and you need to document everything. When you take it above her head, (because it sounds like it won't get any better) you will want as much documentation as possible.

Hi folks,

Rest assured I have made the necessary efforts to insure the my rear end is sufficiently covered! I'm honestly not overly concerned that she would escalate the scenario beyond her idle comments.

In fact, as I've gotten to know her, I have realized just how much of an air sucker she is. She's said such stupid, thoughtless comments to other coworkers that are as ridiculous as she said to me, if not worse. One young lady went out and got her haircut. Not short, but super short. She's very much heterosexual, it's "just a thing" she wanted to try. Looks pretty hip, Joan Jett-ish if you ask me.

Fair enough. But what does knucklebunny say? She wrinkles her nose and says, "I don't like it. You look like a lesbian."

Talk about hearing a pin drop!

And the list goes on. She's not long with the organization. There's no way her comments will continue to go unnoticed.

In any case, thanks for all of your support. Especially to my pal Nephosauras. Consider her to be nailed to the wall in a matter of time.

Finally, you all might like to know that I am most definitely known as having an incredibly straightforward personality. I have been know to say to Ms. Nimrod, "I'm going to pretend you're asking me this question out of naivety, because no one can possibly be that stupid." With big grin plastered on face and all!

I have been in HR for 15 years and am currently the HR Manager for my company and I promise you that if I ever heard one of my colleagues say something so inappropriate, I'd call them out myself.

In HR, your strength in trade comes from your personal credibility and integrity. If your co-workers or the employees you support don't respect and trust you, you're sunk.

She needs to be spoken to immediately by her supervisor and if not her supervisor, then the next person up the chain of command. That kind of discussion is inappropriate and you don't have to put up with it. Besides, it sounds like if you don't nip it in the bud, it'll continue.
:headache:

I am stunned to read that these highly offensive comments are coming from someone in HR. HR is present to prevent such comments and provide harrassment training to employees. She's out of line and her superior needs to be notified.

I definitely agree that you should document all statements and improper actions. Just because she is in HR doesnt mean she's above the law.

Sounds to me like she is a real homophobe. I wonder if she hates dragons too?

Thank you for acknowledging me, and as long as your rear is covered then Bill won't bite it...but you can let him have his way with her if she ever gets close enough.

:bounce:

You've received some great advice so I won't add anything there but will recount an HR story of my own.

We had a "Ask Management" web site and someone complained about the smokers being right outside the entry and that people had to walk through the smoke to enter the building.

The top HR guy (exec. VP) posted a written response stating that the ashcans for the smokers had been moved away from the entry and place in the HANDICAPPED PARKING AREA! So I guess his reasoning was that some poor soul on oxygen wouldn't mind parking in the middle of the "smoking section".
