Looking for some advice from you Disneyland gurus...

A group of six of us (4 adults, 2 kids) will be at Disneyland just after the Cars Land/DCA 2.0 opening from June 18-21. Our Day 1 plans include starting at rope-drop at Disneyland and ride and accumulate FastPasses for everything we love about the park. We will head over to California Adventure later in the day but are well aware that everything Cars Land will probably be insane by that time. On that first day, our DCA will be more to see/experience the ambience of Cars Land and do the many other great things that park has to offer.

That said, Day 2 we plan on starting off at DCA. I just booked us reservations for a 7am breakfast at Storyteller's Cafe. We plan on enjoying that breakfast and getting into the park at the 8am opening. My questions:
  • What are your reviews of Storyteller's Cafe? How is the food/experience?
  • I asked the Cast Member I made reservations with if, since we are eating at the restaurant, we could use the GCH entrance into DCA. She said that entrance is generally reserved for hotel guests only, but a smile can get you a long way. Has anyone had experience with using this entrance after eating at SC but not staying in the hotel? Is this a viable possibility?
  • If we can't enter through the GCH-Guest-Only entrance, is there another route we can take from breakfast than out through the main entrance to the hotel, back through Downtown Disney, and to the main DCA entrance?

I definitely appreciate any feedback regarding this. I find myself becoming "addicted" to this site and all the great opinions/pieces of advice for all things Disneyland. My DW brought me to DL in 2006 (as my DGF [girlfriend]) and for my 30th in 2009 (again, as my DGF). Since then, we went to WDW for the first half of our honeymoon and have been back to DL twice since. And the magic has definitely gotten its hold on us. We are now constantly looking forward to the next trip (which, after a recent trip, the planning begins right away).

Anyway, look forward to the responses!

Hello! That Disney magic is addicting, isn't it? :wizard: Sounds like you have a fun trip planned.

As far as your questions, Storyteller's has some of the better food offerings for breakfast. There is a buffet, but I have never eaten off it, choosing the entrees instead. I have enjoyed my breakfasts there, although they aren't cheap! The character interaction has been fun, although there are fewer characters and some lesser known characters at Storyteller's. There are unusually the "woodland" creatures there, such as Chip and Dale, Meeko, Koda and Kenai, and Terk. The kids at my table had a good time interacting with them and we have some great photos. But it wasn't as many characters as with Minnie and Friends and obviously not many well known characters, such as the Pooh characters, Minnie, etc. But the Storyteller's breakfast was much better than the buffet at Minnie and Friends. So, it really depends on your priorities.

Right after WOC debuted, I purposely ate at Storyteller's for breakfast in order to give the GCH entry a try (we were not on site hotel guests). My family was able to show our receipt and enter as guests of the hotel since we had had breakfast. But I don't believe this is a guaranteed thing. It is worth a try. I would just go with the attitude of seeing what happens and not being angry if you get turned away. The day we went it wasn't too terribly busy at the GCH entrance and I am sure that helped. We also had a very nice CM who looked at our receipt and waved us through.

There is no other way to get to the gates of DCA that I am aware of. It isn't that bad of a walk, though. Just a few minutes and you will be at the front gates. Have fun! :goodvibes

The food is good. You can order from the menu or have the buffet, both are good. If you order the buffet, you can still have an omelotte freshly made for you at the left side of the buffet line. The characters are usually a lot of fun at storytellers so have the cameras ready. You should be able to use the DCA park entrance, it is litteraly next to storytellers. Ask any of the CMs in storytellers about it. Storytellers.....good food....disney characters = good time....:cool1:

It's been a while since we have been to Storytellers but when we went it was the character meals I enjoyed most. There were not quite as many characters as some of the other choices but it was quieter and not quite as chaotic. One of the other things I enjoyed was that you had a choice of going with the buffet or choosing from the menu. I had the Banana-stuffed French Toast and it was wonderful.

As for entering the park through the GCH entrance, I think it depends on which CM you run across. They did not let us in and we had to go back through DTD. Not a big deal but if I had known we would have just went directly towards DTD and saved ourselves a few steps.

We used our receipt to get in that entrance on two different occasions a year ago. We would not have been let in but after I said I had the receipt from storytellers, they checked it and let us in. I would definitely talk to them at the gate and see what they can do.

The breakfast is quieter, less chaotic, like someone else said. I like the increased variety of Goofy's but for an early am breakfast, the storytellers option sounds like enough food and it is prepared well. We enjoy going to Goofy's for a late breakfast after we have hit the parks as we like to stay the entire 1 1/2 hours to relax and see all the characters.
