Storage space on floppy disks

While in Disney, I took a lot of pictures with my digital camera. I tried to load them onto a 1.44 floppy disk and discovered that they would only hold 4 pictures! I don't have a cd writer on my computer so I have to use a floppy disk. Do you know if they make them in different sizes? I was looking in Sam's today and saw something called a "zip disk" (?)...It says it hold 70 times more than a floppy. It looks like the same size as a floppy disk.

Can anyone out there help? I saved all 180 pictures from Disney onto my computer, but I am so afraid something will happen and I will lose them all.

Thanks!

A ZIP disc needs a ZIP drive, just as a floppy needs a floppy drive. It will not work in a floppy drive. You can purchase a CD burner pretty inexpensively, Colleen. Didn't you just get a new PC not that long ago?

We got the computer in Oct. 2001. When they asked me if I wanted the CD burner, I wasn't thinking clearly. I was simply thinking of making CDs that played music, not saving things on the computer! I don't know a whole heck of a lot about these things (but can easily find my way to the DIS boards!!:bounce: ). I'll have to look into getting a cd burner for this thing.

Now for the next question.....does it just 'attach' to the computer or what?!!

I just added a TDK Velo CD Burner to one of my PCs. The instructions were very easy to follow.

You can install an internal one in the tower(cheaper to do) or buy an external one(pricey). If you only have one slot, you can just replace the CD drive with a CD/writer I think. We are having to do the same thing as I got a digital for Christmas too:D ! I am going to call Dell and see what the part costs from them first!

It could be because our equipment is a little older, but . . .

DH had only a CD writer in his system, so that he used it for everything. The writer burned out after about a year & a half. He had heard from some of DS's friends that this isn't uncommon. He replace the burner, but also got a standard CD drive. He's had both in his system for about 3 years now and is using both more heavily than he did before.

If you have the space, I'd recommend having both.

Agree very much withthe above. Adding one should be quite easy, in fact, if you buy from a CompUSA, BestBuy type place, they will install for you for a small amount. And adding an additional, rather than replacing, is a good idea, if you have the bay available.

You guys can tar and feather me if you'd like  but I have another (probably stupid!) question.
What's the difference between the internal and external models? Does the internal one need to be placed in the computers tower and the external can just be plugged in and sit above the tower?

(Ok, now, stop laughing at the computer illiterate! :p )

That is correct, Colleen. And since the external needs some sort of a case and additional cable, it is comparatively quite a bit more expensive. As said above, a Best Buy or like place will install such internal items for a very nominal cost.
