hi all,

I am coming into my 6wk of SBD and apart from the first 2wks when I lost 9lbs, I have not lost anymore!!!!! I am following it as per phase2, and just getting so *** that I am not losing, makes me think why am I eating like this if noting is coming off.

I am considering moving to Atkins, as people on it tend to be losing weight everyweek?

Christmas is coming and I would love to shift another 15lbs to feel good about myself.

If I move to Atkins from SBD do I still need to do the induction? anytips? can someone also explain the under 20g a day rule on Atkins - alos what is a typical days intake on Atkins.

Help pls!!!!!
Nat

(I nearly had a chocolate bar last night - but stopped!!!! just!!)

Does south beach have an induction phase? Perhaps staying on it a big longer would be helpful for you.

Atkins people don't lose every week...at least most of us don't. Every 6 weeks or so I seem to go into a 1-2 week stall, but the loss always picks up again. I think that my fat is being rearranged during those weeks, because I always seem a little smaller to myself. Almost everyone on Atkins has the same thing happen from time to time.

The < 20g of carbs for Atkins is only during the 2 weeks of induction. Essentially you stick to meats, eggs, cheeses, and fats, and 3 cups of salad (2 cups of lettuce and 1 cup of another low carb veg) every day. After that, you are supposed to increase your carbs gradually to find your optiumum level, however there are still a myriad of foods that are not permitted. From what I understand, Atkins is much more restrictive than South Beach.

I don't find Atkins difficult to follow, but it was an adjustment at the beginning. If you are happy with South Beach, tweak it a little bit to see if it can work for you. Otherwise, keep looking until you find the perfect plan for YOUR body. Good luck!!!

Hi Nat,
I'm on Protein Power...somewhere between SBD and Atkins. Low carbs but not as restrictive.

Some weeks I do O.K., others not so well. We're all different. It seems unfair when you know you didn't cheat or overeat and you still don't lose while others are doing so much better.

I think this is all due to metabolism and age. Try a little more exercise (bike ride or walk) and drink more water. Sometimes not eating enough can cause the problem.

Are you keeping a journal? If not, it might be a good idea to start one and try to pinpoint the problem. Write down everything you eat and drink for a couple of weeks. Some of us are keeping journals at the top of the WISH boards and welcome others to read and comment.

Keep at it! Give yourself small goals. Hopefully, the WHOOSH fairy will visit you soon.

Hi! My DH and I are also doing SBD. He has lost about 18. I have lost 11, 9 of which were from phase 1. We are in week 5. I am followng it pretty strictly, perhaps too many fruits and not enough water. He on the other hand is constantly snacking on almonds. He has suggested I try adding a little more fat. (Although he has never done it, he has read the Atkins book.) If you are not getting enough fat, your body will not lose any because it thinks you are in a "famine" time. I still don't feel comfortable eating the fatty cuts of meats that Atkins allows or having to count carbs, but I am going to try snacking on a few more nuts and putting a little more olive oil in my cooking and salad dressings. Good luck. Even though I haven't lost as much as I would like, I really do feel better!

Is your clothing fitting better, Natty? You may be losing inches instead of pounds. You should measure yourself and keep track of that part, too.

Hang in there, you will begin to lose again.

Hi all,

Thanks for your advise - I think there are things I could do to help, drink more water and I think I eat loads of veg and salad (as always see this as healthy) I also need to exercise - which I will be starting soon, as I am back to work next week after being on maternity leave for 6 months and my work has a gym and aerobics classes - so no excuse!!!

My clothes to fit alot better - I guess when I get on the scales I want to see my weight go down as well!!!

I think a journal is a good idea as well as I can keep track of what I am eating and see where I am going wrong.

Good luck to everyone else.

thanks
Nathalie
