Seeing That You Guys Are From Texas And We Are From Louisiana, It Explains Why Were Take The Exact Same Route As You Do. You May Even Be Passing Through West Monroe, Louisiana On I-20....my Hometown.
We Usually Arrive In Mobile, Alabama Around 10:00 Or 10:30 P.m. I Am Really Not A Picky Person About Where I Stay But I Want It To Be In A Nice Area And Clean. Absolutely Not A Roach Motel.
Crossing The Mississippi Line And Into Alabama, You Are On Hwy. 98 Which Is Also Known As Moffett Road The Closer You Get To Mobile. The Traffic At This Time Of The Day Is Not Very Heavy. You Will Pass By Several Churches (most Are Called "moffett Road" Church Of Christ, Baptist, Assembly Of God, Etc.) You Will Go Past Something That Has To Do With The Mobile Water System (i Can't Remember The Exact Names) But You Will See A Green Sign. You Will Also Pass A Very Small Sign That Says "zoo". It Doesn't Really Look Like A Real Large City When You Are In This Area But That's Because You Haven't Really Made It To Mobile Yet. That's Why It's Good To Stop Here.
Just A Very Short Way Before You Start Seeing Signs To Turn Onto The I-65 Service Road, You Will See A Super 8 On The Right Hand Side Of The Road. It Is Up On A Hill. (you Can, Literally, See The Red Lights To Turn Onto The Service Road Just Past The Super 8). We Came Upon The Motel A Few Years Back And It Was Newly Built. Normally Super 8's Aren't My Cup Of Tea But This One Is Really Nice. The Address Is 3759 Moffett Road, Mobile, Alabama And The Phone Number Is 251-460-0008.
If You Are Looking For Your Breakfast The Next Morning, There Are Numerous Fast Food Places Just Off The I-65. If You Miss Those, The Next Best Place To Stop Would Be Closer To Pensacola. Once You Get On I-10, There Are Numerous Stops.
I Would Also Suggest That You Either Leave Mobile Before The Morning Rush Hour Or After The Morning Rush Hour. Once You Pass Through The Tunnel, You Are Going To Hit The Bridges That Pass Over The Gulf. Since The Hurricanes Devastated The Coastline, The Bridges Are Under Construction And Are Not Expected To Be Completed For Quite Some Time. The Traffic Across These Bridges Is Usually One Lane And You Will Have To Maneuver Around The Construction Crews.
If You Choose Not To Stay In Mobile, There Is A Nice Red Roof Inn In Milton Which Is Just 10 Miles From Pensacola. The Red Roof Inns In Pensacola Are Further Off The Interstate Which Means More Traffic. The One Is In Milton Is Just Off The Interstate And Is Very Easy To Get To. Their Address Is 2672 Avalon Blvd., Exit #22. Their Phone Number Is 850-995-6100.
If You've Got It In You To Travel On To Milton, That Would Be Great 'cause You've Got The Mobile Traffic Under Your Belt. If Not, Definitely Stay At The Super 8 In Mobile. Both Have Been Fairly Reasonably Priced And We All Know You Wanna Save Your Money For Walt Disney World!
Hope This Helps You Guys Out. If You Need More Info. On Traveling This Route, Please Let Me Know. We've Got Eleven Trips Under Out Belt And Another One Coming In June, 2007. Lisa
