There has been a lot of talk about people being upset over the POTC changes. First and most important, the character changes of adding Sparrow and Barbossa are VERY suBtle. VERY!!!!!! They are going to blend right. What will be a very pleasant change is all the new special effects and better sound system. Basically the effect are going to just enhance and make the classic scenes more realistic. That will be the only MAJOR change. For those that do not like Sparrow, the dgree the new effects will add to the attraction will far out weigh what they may see as a eye sore of having to look at Sparrow. Forthose who like Sparrow, they will love all of it.

What can we be silly about?

Anyway, I'm glad you're so confident about this. Doesn't make you right.

We'll knwo when it's done won't we.

Either way, I'll enjoy my final ride on the old attraction Saturday and my final meal at Blue Bayou on Sunday.

HUHHHHH! Dont like Sparrow ???.........Blasphemy!

 eyesore!!?

:rotfl2:

I didn't even realize people were upset about this. I'm totally pumped that there will be changes! POTC has always been my favorite ride, but I feel it's ready to be taken up a notch.

To echo Maddhatir:
People don't like Sparrow?!?!?! Johnny Depp as a crazy pirate (not to mention surprisingly attractive)! What's not to love?

IMHO this ride has needed an update for a long time; I'm glad to see it coming and the themes which are being added. I say, "Bring It."

It might be subtle, but none of us will know until it's open

I told my seven year old daughter that POTC wouldn't be open when we visit WDW in a couple of months. Her response was, 'oh, no biggie... other than the hump it was a snoozer. It didn't even seem like the movie at all."

While I love POTC as it is, I don't think that it is garnering that many new fans if my daughter is indicative of that generation. With all the new technologies that have developed over the years, perhaps an update tying it into something the younger generation can relate to won't be a disaster after all.

We shall see....

Of course the question is, how indicative is your daughter. There are millions of young kids that love pirates. At least, that's been my experience when I ride it.

I don't get it. They can add a new sound system during the annual refurbishment of the ride. I think this will be the first time Disney has updated a ride, any ride with new characters, specifically to promote a new movie. Why don't they just show the trailer to the new movie while people are in line. Oops! I'd better be quiet, that could happen, you know. This is blatent commercializaton and Disney synergy at it's worst. IMHO

Have you visited the Narnia "attraction" at MGM? It is mostly the trailer.

Havent' been back to WDW since 2001. How would you rate an attraction that is mostly a movie trailer. Having not seen it, I would say if it's main content is to promote a movie, I'd guess it's pretty bad.

Here's a different view that some of you might not have a problem with. MGM is about movies right? An example of how Disney could "plus" an attraction and not ruin it would be if they added to "The Great Movie Ride." If the pirates movie is as great as everyone says it is, then why not put these characters in a small scene in that ride. They could remove or add to one of the other scenes in that ride, and possibly make it more appealing.

Disney would have to do it right though. I wouldn't even argue if they removed the "Fantasia" scene. I would prefer AA characters over a video sequence anytime. This could work. They could have characters, dialog and music from the movie and it would be perfectly at home. This way, they could satisfy everyone. Add an element from this movie to a park attraction and not trash a perfectly good "classic" one in the process.

Here's a final point. I have said that I did not see this movie, nor will I on principle. But if the pirates movie is so great, then why doesn't hasn't Disney created an entire attraction based on the movie. I'm not suggesting that they could do an "E-Ticket" one, but there are plenty of possibilities. Perhaps something other than the Monster's ride at DCA. Or how about a Pirates stunt show at DCA or MGM? There are plenty of options out there that could be explored and plenty of parks/attractions that need the attention. The POTC attraction is just not one of them. Apparently this movie is going to become a franchise. If they don't do something entirely different AND if this "enhancement" to the classic attraction is a success, I'm afraid that there could be more so-called updates or possibly an entire change to POTC that would ruin it for good.

I don't mind sparrow or others in POTC. But I deffinately agree with you on this point. If Disney wants to capitalize on the movie status then there should be an sperate attraction.

Why a seperate attraction? The most logical thing to do is to add components of the movie into the ride, they put elements of the ride in the movie, is that wrong to. There already is a ride, so create a ride based on the movie that is based on the ride. Sounds like something Mel Brooks would do.

What exactly is blatent commercialization? Is that like really pregnant?

What is the priciple of not watching the movie? It is a great movie with great acting and great special effects. Good story too. It is movies like this that are good for Disney.

As for the ride, we will have to wait and see. My 5 yo son is very dissapointed he won't get to go, but he is excited that the next time we go he can see Jack Sparrow! Why do they have to be opening the ride the day AFTER we leave? WHY WHY WHY!? This always happens to us, bus is pulling out of the station as we approach, cut off the line right as we get there Star Wars Weekends end the week before we get there.

We are Disney Cursed, I just want to cry sometimes.

My daughter does love pirates. Except the kind that live in Pittsburgh.

I'm still waiting to find out what I can be silly about.

Well, if the changes are what you say they are, it should keep some purists from going into convulsions again :thumbsup2

Sounds like potential for something really cool. But we need to wait and see.

I am not worried all that much about "commercialization". The whole damn place is commercialized. How many rides are movie advertisements? Snow White, Pooh, Buzz, Stitch, and so on. The friggin castle is a movie ad!

I don't know why people would NOT go see the movie? It was very original and different which is something we really have not seen lately.

Great acting, good story and the movie was based ON THE RIDE.... so why would they build an entire new attraction? That does not make sense.

I think Disney knows what it is doing, but I also feel that because so many people dislike the Stich ride that is what they will do to the Pirates and I really do not think that will happen.

I can't wait to see what the new and improved POTC will be.

BTW, didn't It's a Small World look soooo different when it reopened???? (Heavy Sarcasm) pixiedust:

How many E-tickets were built as movie ads originally?

I can think of one. Splash mountain.

And come on, the Tiki room?

Under new managment is so bad, it's not worth being silly about. It's best just to pretend it isn't there.

So do you think Pooh wasn't built to raise the profile of those products? Or Snow White's ride? Or Stitch's? Or the Buzz ride? Or the Magic Carpets of Alladin?

Are you so sure they weren't aware of the commercial benefit when they decided to call it Cinderella's castle? Or Carousel? Or when they Built a ride about Peter Pan? Or put Dumbo on a ride?

All I am saying is that these were built for many reasons, and some of them were to make loads of money on dolls, t-shirts, etc., that represented those characters and those movies. This has been going on forever. Are you upset with all of those too? (And by the way, that is really a question, because if you are then that makes perfect sense to me.)

True enough, but the original put me to sleep just like this one does. :rolleyes1
