Stomachs Sufficiently Stretched, DxDDP in Dec! 3/27 - Flying Fish Cafe

Joining in late but I'm here now :) - how about a Carrot Cake cookie from the Writers Stop at the Studios ?
Also I saw a post earlier for a drink at the bar at T Rex where they actually pour your Martini over Cotton Candy

OOh just looked back at the post and it's called a Cosmo-Cotton-Tini :woohoo:

Hi everyone! :wave2:

I have been slacking on any sort of food-review related posting, but since we are a mere 5 days away from my trip I wanted to provide you all with links to my live blog and Twitter. I'll be posting to both during our trip---pictures on the live blog only since I don't know how to post them to Twitter. :guilty:

Feel free to follow along if you need a Disney fix and I will be returning to posts on the DIS when I return. :santa:

Here is the link to my Twitter.

Enjoy!!

Hi everyone! We're back!

I just wanted to give an update for any of you who may be looking forward to my dining reviews. Unfortunately, this trip didn't go quite as planned. On oue first full day in The World, we got the news that DH'S Grandfather passed away which led to lots of rearranging plans/restaurants and put a little damper on the general trip enjoyment. We came back on a 7:00 a.m. flight on Thursday to head up to Massachusetts for the services and now after a week of traveling to/from Florida and the great Northeast, we're at home.

The original plan was to eat at the following restaurants while on the Deluxe Dining Plan:

- Earl of Sandwich
- Todd English's bluezoo
- Starring Rolls Cafe
- Hollywood Brown Derby
- Flying Fish Cafe
- Crystal Palace
- ESPN Club
- California Grill
- Kona Cafe
- The Plaza Restaurant
- Yak & Yeti
- Jiko
- San Angel Inn
- Le Cellier
- Sunshine Seasons
- Kouzzina
- The Plaza Restaurant again

Well, we had to cut our trip two days short and as a result, we also shuffled around our dining plans---so our final line-up ended up being:

- Earl of Sandwich
- Todd English's bluezoo
- Starring Rolls Cafe
- Hollywood Brown Derby
- Flying Fish Cafe
- Crystal Palace
- Kona Cafe
- Beaches and Cream
- Sunshine Seasons
- San Angel Inn
- ESPN Club
- Kouzzina
- Yak & Yeti
- Yachtsmen Steakhouse

We came back with a boatload of dining credits (like 12 maybe) and also had about 10 snack credits leftover, that we bought some fudge and Mickey rice crispy treats with, so the Deluxe plan was kind of a bust for us this trip.

Anywho, since we are currently getting pounded with about 16-20 inches of snow I have decided to start processing my pictures and getting my TRs started. Stay tuned, I'll be getting started with the first reviews soon!

Ann

Waiting for some Christmas Vacation ratings. I just watched it the other night; still the best Christmas movie ever.

So sorry to hear you had to cut your trip short and my condolences to your DH and the family. Looking forward to your reviews!

Anne, condolences to you and your DH on his grandpa's passing.

Looking forward to your reviews when you get them going.

So sorry to hear of your grandfather's passing

Glad you made it home safe and sound and cannot wait to hear all about your trip!

I'm really sorry to hear about your DH's grandfather... I hope you all managed to have a fun trip. I'm subscribing now.

Well everyone---I know you thought these reviews were never going to happen, but after the holidays, being extremely busy at work and lots of other life stuff that has gotten in the way of processing my pictures, I finally decided it was time to start!

Unfortunately, I'm ditching the rating system for now. I might go back and add them in later, but I'm sure you'll be able to get the idea of whether we liked it or not on your own. :goodvibes

So without further ado...let's get this show on the road.

First up is...

The Boardwalk Bakery

Upon checking into Boardwalk Villas on the first day of our trip, we decided that before we started relaxing on the rockers on the patio of the hotel we needed to grab a snack.

For months and months there is one food item that I had been dreaming about trying per the one and only Lurkyloo's recommendation---the peanut butter chocolate cake. ::drools::

Please excuse the cell phone pic, there aren't too many of these along the way.

My cake was in one word, excellent. It was a my favorite flavor combination in the whole wide world, temperature wise it was cool and for only like $3 it was a steal.

I don't have pictures, but my DM got a cheesecake brownie and really liked it. She thought it was a bit rich and definitely didn't finish it, but it hit the spot as a snack to start off what we were hoping would be a great vacation.

DH got an eclair. Not too much to say about this, other than he liked it and of course finished it.

The Boardwalk Bakery would become a place we stopped a lot during our trip and while the line sometimes gets a bit long, most times we considered it well worth the couple-minute wait.

Next up is...

Earl of Sandwich!

Having tried the sammies here during our trip in October, DH decided that if we could only return to one place, his choice would be EOS. Figures!

Right after we got our room assignment, we headed to Downtown Disney for a late lunch at EOS before heading over to the West Side to see La Nouba.

We showed up to EOS and as usual, there was a pretty long line for food. Knowing what he wanted already, DH decided to grab us a table while we ordered.

After tryinga few types of sandwiches last trip, I decided that the Carribean Jerk Chicken sandwich was my favorite.

As last time, it was AWESOME. The bread was nice and fresh and crusty and the jerk sauce on the sandwich combined with the peppers was tangy and just a little bit spicy. This may be my idea of a perfect sandwich.

Erik (DH) decided that he wanted the same sandwich as last time---the Holiday Turkey Sandwich.

Ever since eating this in October, Erik has tried to replicate it MANY times at home. We have roasted our own turkey, used cold-cuts from the store, used stove-top stuffing and made our own and nothing seems to compare. It was a nice substitute, but not a replacement for the real thing. I think what makes it must be the bread. Anywho, Erik LOVED it and if it wasn't for the fact that we had a dinner reservation, I think he considered for a brief second getting another one. :rotfl:

My Mom decided to get a Caprese sandwich. I don't have a picture of this one unfortunately, but she really liked it. She finished the whole sandwich even though she swore she couldn't and agreed that for the price, Earl of Sandwich was a great value and a fantastic counter-service meal.

For dinner after seeing La Nouba, we made a reservation to eat at Todd English's bluezoo at the Dolphin Hotel. Being that we loved it so much last time and it was a quick walk from the Boardwalk, it sounded like the perfect choice.

As last time, we started off with a basket (?) of great bread.

There is some bread in here that's amazing, soft, fluffy and buttery. Probably my favorite bread at any of our on-property meals so far.

Erik decided he wanted to start the meal with an er.....interesting drink. A Bacon Bourbon. The description is just what you would imagine, bourbon infused with bacon. Sounds good, right? Erik's justification was that he likes bourbon and likes bacon, so why not.

Yeah...I like icecream and shrimp, but I don't plan to combine those anytime soon. :rolleyes1

Unfortunately for Erik and our wallets, Erik took one sip of this and decided he didn't like it. He didn't even eat the bacon swizzle stick!

We had an Olive's Classico Flatbread as an appetizer.

Like last time, this was awesome. Hot and crispy with very fresh tasting ingredients. The flatbread could probably be eaten as a meal because it's huge, but three of us splitting it as an app worked out just right.

For our entrees, we stuck with what we liked best last time and everyone got the Scallops over Braised Short Ribs with Cauliflower Puree.

The scallops were cooked perfectly and the short ribs were so tender they just fell apart. The cauliflower puree and sauce was sooooo tasty, I just wish they gave you more of it.

This has got to be one of my all-time favorite restaurants in Walt Disney World. We may skip it on our upcoming trip just to make room for something new, but we will definitely go back in the future. The service is fantastic, the food is amazing and it's not hard to get a reservation here---both times we have gone the place has been DEAD.

Bluezoo gets a BIG two thumbs up from me.

I'm getting a late start, but subscribing now! You'll be reviewing alot of the restaurants we have reserved for our upcoming trip in May. We're also staying at the Boardwalk Villas!

Great start! We stayed at BWV a few weeks ago and tried several times to get into the Boardwalk Bakery. Never made it in, the lines were insane.:headache:

I want to go to Bluezoo SO BADLY for the scallops- they always get such high praise on this board! :worship: And I might have to find a way to try that pb Chocolate cake from BWB- I'm not so into sweets, but PB & Chocolate- well, that's it's own special category, huh? :thumbsup2 My favorite combo, too.

I have a kind of weird question for you- does your Mom have a sister named Linda? She looks alot like someone I went to college with- at Rider. It's your Mom's eyes- they are just like this person I'm thinking of! I know it's a longshot, but I thought I'd ask!

Looking forward to the rest-

Great reviews, you've got me hooked!

I love blue Zoo too, it's a must every trip - I've never been disappointed :)
