I thought i'd post up some issues i've been having to see if anyone else here has had similar issues. I'm 27 year old male, and have never really had any stomach issues before. A few months ago, out of the blue, I was eating a sandwich on lunch at work and got some pretty nasty indigestion ( I think!) That was weird enough, because I don't recall ever having it before. It felt like I needed to let out a big burp, but couldn't. I took some tums and it didn't help much, but the next day I woke up feeling fine. Then later that day, I had something to eat and same thing again. There was no heartburn feeling, but just that feeling I needed to burp.

Starting the next day, I woke up with this dull gnawing pain in my upper abdomen, right below the sternum. Eating seemed to help, but only temporarily and it would return. Plus after everything I ate or drank, I felt gassy at both ends! Plus my body makes some rather loud gurgling intestine noises and I can just feel the gas rolling around. So eating would help the gnawing stomach pain go away, but it would make me feel bloated/gassy. Jump ahead 2 months, and here I am with the same problems. It's really affecting my every day life, and I feel i'm getting no better.

I've seen my family doctor a few times, and was sent to a GI. He did bloodwork for h pylori, pancreas, all came back negative. Also was sent for an ultrasound of my pancreas and gallbladder, no problems seen. GI also did an endoscope and said I have GERD and gastritis. The GERD throws me off because I don't get heartburn or that feeling of acid coming up. So i've been on prevacid twice a day for about 6 weeks, and have been seeing NO SIGNS of improvement. I've changed my diet, cut out on trigger foods, but everything is bothering me. My next appointment isn't until FEBRUARY and that's too far away. I spend every day feeling terrible, and I don't know what to do now. I also had to get new insurance that won't cover pre-existing conditions so i'm pretty much on my own until that expires in May.

If ANYONE has had problems like this, and can offer any suggestions, support, or ideas on what to do next... i'd really appreciate it. It'd be so nice to be able to get my life back. Thanks for reading

My dh had GERD and takes Nexum. His father died of esphogal cancer so he also takes it as a precaution. His symptoms are similier to yours. However if your meds aren't working you need to go back to the dr and tell him. You may just need a nother med or you may need more tests.
If you can wait until May than do it (I understand pre existing conditions) but if not ask the pharmacist if there is another OTC med you could take until you get to the dr.

That bloated like gassy feeling can also be a part of GERD . Sometimes it takes trying different combinations of medications before you find the right one. One that can be added to help with that bloated discomfort is Reglan. It helps move everything along and with one of the heartburn meds might be the right combination. Ask your Dr. about this and to possibly change the medicine you're on right now. Aciphex , Protonix- you need to try other medicines if this one is not working. If nothing works get further tests .

thanks for the replies.. I can still go see my family doctor and he's really good with hooking me up with free samples. A medicine change must be in need because my stomach hurts all day so I can't see how this medicine has done me any good yet.

Although they claim they all act the same....GERD medicines all react differently to different people. Obviously the one you are taking is not working, if it is GERD.....see your doctor and try another one. Nexium is the only one that works for me, but the insurance company did not want to pay for it so they made me go through trying all the others and suffering it out until they finally agreed to pay for Nexium.. granted I still pay $50 for my copay, but it is worth it to me to live without the pain. I do not have heartburn, I have chest pain from esophageal spasms...

Also, did they do a ct scan?? sometimes they are far more conclusive than an ultrasound. If they change your medication and you have tried all of the meds for GERD and are still having these symptoms, I would insist on a CT scan..

Just speak up if it is not working, they are so quick to label and sometimes it can be something entirely different.

I answered your pm this morning... I still say when you can have a CT scan paid by for your insurance, shame on them for making you wait, have the CT scan.. they are more conclusive than an ultrasound.....trust me on this, I have been at this with my husband for over 4 years.....it was not GERD for him..

Hugs and if you have any other questions, pm me.
