Stollers at FW? Just rent at parks?

We're thinking about our stroller situation for our trip. Last time both of our kids were of stroller age, but this time the oldest will be 6. We had really nice lightweight umbrella strollers and while they were great at the parks, they were miserable for getting on and off of buses. I suspect the 6 year old will wear out at times at the parks and since we're on vacation, I'd rather let her catch a ride than be miserable.

My youngest will still need a stroller for sure, but I am wondering if we'd be better off skipping taking our own because of the internal bus system. (We'd basically be getting strollers open and closed about 4 times by the time we got to the parks.)

I'm leaning towards renting a double stroller at the parks, but I'm just wondering if we'll regret that because FW is so spread out. I suppose we could take the umbrella for FW if we are walking around there and rent at the parks but I'd rather keep my packing to a minimum.

Any thoughts on strollers at FW?

Thanks

Well, will you be using Disney transport exclusively? If yes, will you have late nights? If yes, then will you be able to carry two sleeping children from the bus stop to your site/cabin?

I don't get the opening stroller 4 times--grab the stroller to get to the internal bus stop, fold it up and open it again when you get to the park or marina. You wouldn't open it when you get to the Outpost/Settlement bus stop--just get off the internal bus and sit on a bench to wait for the next bus.

Of course, I may be prejudiced because our little one is 7 1/2 and we still take the stroller. She doesn't use it all the time, but when you need it you are sure glad it is there!

Have fun planning!

Oh duh! I don't know why I was thinking we'd open it up again at the Outpost/Settlement stops!

I'm still not sure what we'll do. At theme parks my oldest tends to walk around the entire time, asking for the stroller only in certain moments. So we end up pushing an empty stroller most of the time. Of course, WDW is a different story since we don't normally go to theme parks for 10 days.

Unfortunately, my kids will NEVER be the kind to fall asleep at the end of the day and if they did, they'd never stay asleep long enough to be put into bed without them waking up and staying up for hours. We're also going in Dec. so parks won't be open very late, so that's not a concern.

But now that I don't have my brain thinking it's opening and closing 4 times that makes a big difference! Thanks!

If you think that your oldest will last most of the day and only need breaks with the stroller, I would recommend renting one at the park. They are very wide and can accommodate your oldest. I only have one youngin', but my BF has three and she packs as light as she can and will rent a double and take one. Her oldest is 5 and can last the whole day, but for all of our sanity, she makes the 5 year old take breaks in the rented stroller because of the room there. We have a big stroller for our DS3, but I tend to over pack, so it is ok for us. DH gets tired of carrying it everywhere, but oh well. :thumbsup2

My girls are 5 and almost 3 and we will be renting a double stroller at the parks for them to use to take breaks etc.. I got some good tips on the rented strollers too, such as bring along a towel or buy one of those "neet sheets" at walmart to have for the inside of the stroller so it doers not get real hot and sticky, and also get the clip on stroller fans which you can get at babiesrus or online for pretty cheap. Also you can prepay for the amount of time you are going to be there too and you get some $$ knocked off the total and its much easier to pick up your stroller each day b/c you do not have to wait in the lines to pay etc.

I would think about things such as the pool and the campfire program and the prospect of carrying the kids anywhere.

My kids are dead weights when they pass out--so we bring a couple of umbrellas at least to the campsite. Even if I were to rent a stroller I would do this for the transport of sleepy babes to the potty in the middle of the night, to shower in the morning, to the campfire, et cetera.
