I think that everyone should have at least one friend, as the world is great when you have friends at your side. (Not that I'd know too much about it, people don't understand my sarcasm and irony around here.)

I'd like to add-
Always look for good things in others. Even if you don't like them, be nice to them. It may hard, but it makes their day, they don't have to see hatred, they see how caring you are despite your general dislike.
