When do you open your stockings? Before the gifts or at the end?

I wrapped everything in their stockings. The kids are still young and love surprises and opening each little thing.

So, before the gifts or after?

Dawn

At our house when Santa fills the stockings he puts them at the foot of each kids bed. Then when they wake up in the morning they spend some time opening up their stockings and playing with that stuff until they come and wake us up. At least that's the idea. Unfortunately ds7 and dd5 haven't realized that yet. One was up at 3:00 and the other was up at 5:00. LOL:surfweb:

Wow, that is EARLY!

This am, I am the only one up so far!

I filled the stockings last night so they haven't seen those gifts yet.

Their Disney passes are in them!!! They know we are going already though. They are also getting some Disney dollars in there.

How exciting, Dawn!

I am the only one up too. It's after 7, what is up????

Yesterday, DD slept until 10:30. She goes to bed at 9:00. I think we wore her out at Disney (got back Monday night, boo hoo). Although she slept a lot there, we did a fair amount of walking.

Santa fills our stockings and leaves them near the tree, nothing wrapped from Santa, then the kids are allowed to see that stuff. That occupies some time while we usually have our coffee (but this morning, I will be done and making cinnamon rolls by the time these guys get up!).

Then we take turns opening one gift at a time here.

We didn't do lots of gifts this year, but we just got back from 5 nights at the BWI. It was too short if you ask me. Next time, I'd like to do 10...

Merry Christmas!

We are heading down Jan. 17th!

We're on Sanibel Island right now so we'll do it when we get home, but we always do gifts first then breakfast then stockings. It stretches the morning out a little bit. Stockings are my favorite part of Christmas morning, I think.

Merry Christmas! We do stockings after gifts here... We have been up since 600am.Plus ,I was up all night.I was supposed to work night shift last night(RN) But I got the stomach bug yesterday, and have pretty much made sweet love to the toilet. So I called off...I am sure that I will be dealing with the fallout from that one all week.Have a great holiday!

Sympathy on the stomach bug - DS8 has one as well. We did get through about half the presents before he felt like lying down again (sleeping right now.)

OP - stockings first. Santa does not wrap the stocking things, and DS is usually busy enough with those things for Mom & Dad to pour coffee.

normally stockings first but the kids went straight for the presents this morning. It was super cute to hear my 4yr old come tearing up the steps and calling to his 5yr old sister that Santa came and he brought lots of presents!!

When I was growing up (and still when we open presents with Grandma and Grandpa) stockings are done last. And with the other grandma and grandpa, stockings are filled on St. Nicholas day (Dec 6) instead of Christmas.

However, at our house, they're done first. We get together with my sister's family (they live 3 doors down) to open gifts on Christmas morning. The stockings can be opened as soon as we all go downstairs. Everything else has to wait until everyone is here.

Stuff in the stockings is usually not wrapped -- at any of the houses.

Stockings first---this year we did things differently--we left the stockings filled in the family room and Santa left the big gifts in the play room by the tree. We spent a while with the stockings and DS was content--he thought that was all Santa did--it was great to see his face when we entered the playroom. I hope that everyone had a wonderful CHRISTmas!!!

Thanks...I feel a little better.

We do stockings first. Santa leaves the stocking in the hall outside our bedrooms. The kids all bring their stocking to our room and we open them on our bed. We tried having the stocking by the tree when my oldest DS was little, but he didn't care to open his stocking because of all the other bigger gifts. So, in an effort to give us a chance to let the coffee brew and for the kids to appreciate the stocking gifts, we do those first upstairs, away from the tree.

We've always done stockings first, with unwrapped gifts inside. Growing up, we had to wait for everyone to be downstairs together to open stockings, but they were the only thing we all opened at the same time (gifts we do one at a time to see and appreciate what we get). Those are still the same rules for our family, we just only had one child the past two years so we haven't really implemented them yet - next year they'll start. :)

At our house, the kids are allowed to get their stockings and have anything in them as soon as they get up, and they are not to wake anyone else up.

When I was a kid, my mom would put an Atari game in my sister's stocking, and we'd set the alarm for 2am, go get our stockings, and play Atari all night! My kids have trouble even falling asleep by then on Christmas Eve, and they haven't thought of getting up early on purpose yet, but when they do I'll probably start putting a DS or Wii game in the stockings.

I had to work Christmas Eve night this year, so the stuff in their stockings tided them over until I got home from work and we could open the presents under the tree. They just got candy and a scratch off Bingo ticket in the stocking this year since we're going to Disney in a couple weeks.

Stocking first here. There are a few wrapped items in there. They can do the stockings whie waiting for daddy to get up. He's usually the last one up!
