Stock up on pork products?

If you look at stories from the beginning of the year, b/c of the plant based movement, we had more frozen supply of meat products than we ever had in years...so even if production gets delayed a few weeks (or even a few months), we are still swimming in product.

This story is a way to move product at inflated prices, so what happened to the oil industry doesn't happen to the meat one...they want to make the previously highly trended plant-based meat movement go away permamently...and doing that by getting people to stock meat (b/c people ALWAYS want what they might not be able to have...and then they want it more and more...and buy it more and more) is a brilliant plan...

It’s so disappoint when people just want to use conspiracy theories about big business or big brother or whoever and that EVERYTHING that happens in this world is all because of some hidden agenda.

But but... that's what all the good movies are based on!!

Seriously tho. Sure, there may be a shortage, but it would be minor. However, all of this panic buying causes other people to hoard, and soon you have a major shortage. There are things other than pork.

My Costco has started to limit again on meats. 3 in total per member, but it has to be different. For example, one poultry, one pork products, and one beef. It can’t be two different pork items, etc. I was glad that I was able to get chicken breast and bacon. Anything else I am good for the month. The limits caught be by surprise.

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea it had to be different types of meat.

One of the large meat packing plants here that was closed is reopening today, after about 25% of their workforce tested positive for coronavirus.

The grocery store I shop at is limiting packages of meat to two packages per meat type, which I find reasonable.

Ugh! The hoarders will be out there grabbing it all up, putting it in their Xtra fridges n freezers. But... we re told, no food chain issues to worry about. Today’s headline... Wendy’s ( in certain locations) has No Beef, so No burgers. You just can’t win..😎

What? Where's the beef?

I stopped at our local butcher shop on my way home from work today. 85% lean ground beef that was $5.39/lb last week is now $9.99/lb, with a 2lb limit. I will probably head to Sam's or Walmart later to see what it is there.

Canada has a shortage in beef as one of our main processing plants was hit hard by the Covid 19 and forced to shutdown.

A local grocery store is running 85% lean ground beef for $3.99 a pound in value packs of around 4 pounds. When I saw that early Sunday, I put in an order for 2 packs. Now I'm really glad I did.

My husband stopped at Sam's Club after work and got 8lbs of grass fed ground beef for $4.99 per lb. We want to support a local small business, but can't pay double!

There are no deep freezers for sale anywhere. They’re all sold out. In addition, one major consumer magazine suggested buying a cheap refrigerator just for the extra freezer space if you can’t find a stand alone freezer, the thinking being lots of people have two refrigerators.

And so, most refrigerators are now on 2-4 week back order at most of the big box stores.

Point being, the idea to stock up and freeze some meat is at least two appliance runs (freezers, refrigerators) old already.

I was just at Sam's today and ground beef was $3.48 lb. Limit one package but the packages were all 4lbs+. They seemed to have plenty. Plenty of bacon and sausage (no limits). Ground turkey was plentiful but we don't buy that.
