Introduction

Hello Everyone!!

Our trip was over Thanksgiving. I planned this trip when I found out this would be the last year for Osbourne Lights. I just had to see them one more time. We were scraping the bottom of the barrel with our DVC points, so we used what was left of those for a 1 BR at Old Key West for the first two nights and then my travel agent friend @jensib hooked me up with a Cars Suite at Art of Animation for the last three nights.

The cast characters consists of myself

My name is Susan and I design irrigation systems for a landscape architect.

And My DH

His name is Jerry and he works in management at a chemical plant. He just got a really great job in Corpus Christi (we live in South Carolina right now), so he has been living in Texas while the kids and I are here until the house is sold. It has been hard without him, so we were very happy to see him and spend this special time with him.

Here we are.

My DS

His name is Nathan and he is 16. We are just going to call him Grumpy Cat. He has decided that he is not into Disney anymore and I’m not going to lie, he kind of sucked some joy out of the trip for us. Next time, I seriously think we will leave him home. I think he will be happier staying home as well. The trick is finding a place for him to stay. Here he is actually being goofy and fun for a short moment.

And the last character is our DD

Her Name is Hannah and she is 13. She is my Disney buddy. She is always ready for a trip and even though we had a few “teen” moments, she was lots of fun and we had a great time.

I hope you all will stop in and say hello and follow along as I share my trip.

Hey, Susan! I'm glad you were able to make a trip to see the last year of the Osbourne Lights.

I'm sorry Nathan was less than agreeable. That age can be so delightful!

Congrats to your hubby on his new job! I hope your home sells quickly and your family can be together again. How do the kids feel about moving?

Looking forward to reading all about this trip!

Hey Annie!!! I'm so glad you stopped by. The new move is exciting to me, but yes it is hard to be away from him. I think we picked a poor time of the year to sell our house. Not much traffic, I'm afraid. The kids are less than thrilled with the move. We just want to DO it already. This whole limbo thing really sucks.

Day 1 – Part one

We got up at 3:30 AM and were on the road at 4:15 ish. We stopped at Waffle House for breakfast. I call it the Awful Waffle. Not because the food isn’t good, but it is just kind of gross and dirty. Here’s a food photo.

We made great time and only got slowed down on I-4 for a while.

But at long last, we ended up here.

Old Key West. We checked in about 11:30 AM. Snapped a photo for the Christmas wreath.

Our room wasn’t ready so we went to Disney Springs to shop and get a snack. More Christmas deco.

We stopped into D Street which used ot have some really cool vinylmations, but all it had this time was Star Wars merch.

We stopped to look in here. It was really neat. Pricey, but neat.

More exploring. I want to go here some day.

Interesting tree.

Those amphibious cars were cool.

Continued next post.

Good for you for making the change to Disney Springs. It'll be Downtown Disney for at least two more years for me. I don't transition well. Definitely some interesting Christmas decorations there.

Heck yeah, that lemonade could use some vodka! You should suggest that to the Wetzel's folks!

I'm sorry you're not getting much traffic on your house. Spring and summer usually are better times to sell, but what can you do? Hopefully the right person will come along soon.

How's your ankle doing? Is it still giving you issues?

I'm OK with the name change. It certainly looks better there and the parking is SOOOOO much better.

Yes, I know this is a bad time to sell, but he didn't get the job offer until August and I didn't have the house ready until September. I painted almost ALL of the inside walls. 2500 SF.

The ankle still swells and I still ice it almost daily. Certainly I iced it every day while I was there, but it held up fairly well. I didn't need a scooter so that was good!! That was a big help because it was VERY crowded. The most crowded I have ever seen it during Thanksgiving.

I like that shirt for the last Spectacle of Lights. You didn't want one for yourself?

Nice villa! Do you put the kitchen to much use?

I learned earlier this Fall that I have two students whose parents are DVC members. One with the home resort Old Key West and the other Saratoga Springs. Both boys, one is really quiet, but the other is very chatty. I love having a student I can talk Disney! Maybe I need to get tight with the parents!!!

I wasn't into the t-shirt. I am sure I will regret it later though.

We were on the dining plan so we didn't need the kitchen. really. We put stuff in the fridge. And I used the ice for my ankle.

We own at Saratoga Springs. If those parents are anything like us, they don't have any points left over to bank at the end of the year.

Looks like you had a fun trip !

It was fun. Six days is not enough.

Day One – Part 3

So a little back story on our dinner. Originally, I had Raglan Road for this night. But we planned on going to Hollywood Studios to see the lights and I thought, well maybe it would be better to have dinner at the park. So it took a couple weeks of checking, but I finally snagged this ressie about 2 weeks before we left. Our ADR was for 3:30 PM. I figured it would give us plenty of time to eat and then hang out and wait for the lights to come on. Because you want to be there when they come on. Because it is one of the coolest things ever.

Anyway, we checked in and were seated right away.

Our waitress was great. Her name was Sabrina and we really loved her. She was super fun and had a great sense of humor.

We got the onion rings for an appetizer.

Battered Onion Rings- served with horseradish sauce $6.99
http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/jecskc/media/November 2015/Day 1/K1024_DSC03366.jpg.html

We all got drinks – just cokes and stuff. But DD got a chocolate milkshake. It was really thick and delicious.

For our entrées, DH and I shared the sampler platter.

A Sampling of Mom's Favorite Recipes- Crispy-fried Chicken, Fork Tender Pot Roast, and Traditional Meatloaf with all the fixings $21.99

I’m so glad we split this because it was a TON of food. And it was all really good. We really liked it.

Grump Cat got the Fried Chicken.

Aunt Liz's Golden Fried Chicken- served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, chicken gravy and seasonal vegetables $19.99

He seemed to enjoy it. He scarfed it down and left to catch a bus back to the room in true Grumpy Cat fashion. Whatever.

DD got an adult portion for the macaroni.

Just your basic Stouffer’s tasting stuff. But she seems to like it.

For dessert, DH got the Apple Crisp

Traditional Warm Apple Crisp- A la mode for $7.49; $5.49

Very warm and delicious.

I got Dad’s Brownie Sundae

Dad's Brownie Sundae- chocolate brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream, Hot Fudge, Caramel sauce, whipped cream and toppings $6.49

Fabulous as always. The popcorn was chewy and not crunchy, but it was for decoration anyway. It was huge and I couldn’t finish it.

DD got the Cheesecake.

No Sugar Added Cheesecake- topped with fresh whipped cream and strawberry sauce $5.49

She didn’t want the strawberry sauce because she has the taste buds of a five year old.

It was good though. Some more decor.

This was one of our best meals here. Everything worked out perfectly and tasted wonderful. We got finished about 5:00 PM and looked around in the shops some and then we meandered over to the Streets of America to wait for the Christmas Lights to come on.

Those meals looked really tasty! I could eat my weight in onion rings!

Considering you and your hubby split an entree, and were on the dining plan, did you pay out of pocket for the extra dessert, drink and appetizer? I don't mean to be nosy, just curious.

My sister has my parents' old silver tree like the one there. She proudly puts it up every year.

Those onion rings were so good. They lasted about 5 seconds. We used 3 meal credits and had to pay extra for the onion rings. The milkshake counted as a drink so we didn't have to pay extra for that. Since Grumpy Cat left early, I ate his dessert.

I love that 50's decor!!

Day 1 – Part 4

After our fabulous dinner at 50’s Prime Time we headed over to the Streets of America to wait for the Osborne lights to come on.

They were spectacular as always. I was so happy we planned this trip and we got to see them one last time. We hung out for a while until the press of the crowd started to get to me and we headed out to ride GMR

and DH and DD rode Star Tours (this ride makes me sick). And we headed back to the room.

A great first day!!

Day 2 – Nov. 25, 2015

Part One

We got up around 9 AM and it was the hardest thing to get everyone out the door. We finally got to Epcot around 10:30 AM.

After that, we went to Mexico to have lunch.
