We wanted to do either of the Stingray City and Cayman Island tour excursions offered and both were sold out when I called. I was told there may be a "small" amount of bookings available on board, but they could not guarantee that. So I booked the island tour just so we could see the island sights. Has anyone booked Stingray City on their own and who did you use ?? Also, what kind of pricing was there. Thanks for any info.

Don't worry. There were always plenty of local taxis & tour operators offering similar (and often better & less expensive) services at every Caribbean island port that we've ever been to. Other than our first cruise when we got a special deal with onboard credits, we have never gone with a ship excursion. We've always done our own things, either prearranged or spur of the moment at the port. I can say that we've saved substantial $$ and had great fun each time when compared with the similar ship excursions.

That said, doing things on your own is not for everyone. Some people would not be able to relax and enjoy the cruise unless they know excursions are all taken care of. We've gone with friends who would've been too worried to do things on their own if they hadn't gone with us. For them, they don't mind paying the premium for cruise excursions for peace of mind...

Go with Captain Marvins.... we did on our June 22 Western cruise. We did the Coral Gardens, Barrier Reef and Stingray City tour.

We had a great time, they did a nice job and they were friendly and helpful. Try to book early in the day to allow yourselves extra time to shop or to enjoy 7 Mile Beach. We asked the Captain Marvin's shuttle driver to drop us at 7 Mile Beach on the way back to the Offices. They did without a problem (at the Holiday Inn) and we spent a few hours there. Then took a taxi ($4 each) back to the ship.

Enjoy!!!
