i have reservations going into JFK on june 21 (just reservations, i haven't purchased the tickets yet), but i've decided to go a week earlier (to have more time on my own before the conference)....

so since i have to change the reservation, i can also change airports....so....i was thinking about heading for newark instead of jfk in order to catch a connecting flight with continental down to orlando...

i think these are my choices:
To get from JFK to orlando i can fly:
Delta
Jet Blue

To get from Newark to Orlando, i can fly:
Continental..

so what would you do?
fly into JFK and then out on Delta? JetBlue?
or fly into Newark and then continue on Continental to orlando?

i am so indecisive...

Would be all down to times and prices for me, whichever suited me best. If no difference toss a coin.:rotfl:
Is luggage allowance affected in any way, the thru flight with Continental will have transatlantic allowance, are others same?

good point about the luggage allowance...
i'm not flying in on continental....i would fly in on the same airline either way (it flies to both newark and JFK)..

i forgot about the luggage allowance...i wasn't going to do the NYC-MCO as an add on to my ticket - since i can buy that piece for less money myself...
but that's an important point - if i do it as an add-on to my international ticket, i'll be able to have the same baggage allowance....(i think)...

hmmm....

truth is, i was toying with the idea of flying into JFK and then taking the amtrak train from NYC to orlando.....
but it's a long ride...but i thought it might be fun....and since i'm seriously afraid of flying these days, it seemed like a way to at least avoid some of the air time.....if i could take a transatlantic train i would....
actually, if i could take a transatlantic boat i would...
i even checked the queen mary's schedule, but it would cost me a small fortune to travel that way (not even thinking about the extra time it would take)...

maybe i should consider valium

The one time we did stop over in NYC we bought internal flights seperate, saved us £300 (£100pp) but it meant we only has 23kg allowance instead of, if I remember rightly 2 x 32kg pp back then if we had bought a thru ticket.
We travel light so we were OK but it something to consider.
Not easy if you don't like flying.

it's not that i don't like flying..
i do like to fly....
it's that i'm afraid of flying...

Is flying with Continental the whole way not an option? We usually fly to Newark with them.

it is an option - they were more expensive for business class when i made the reservations....
since i'm changing the dates, the price is going to change as well so i'll have to see who comes out cheaper now....

last time i flew continental the whole way (including across the atlantic) i flew economy and i found them really unpleasant....but my sister flew business class and thought they were fantastic....

I flew with in economy last September and thought they were fine. Nothing great, but nothing bad. We can't really afford to fly business class though.

i can only afford to fly business when i either get a really good price (they're sometimes available) or using frequent flyer points to upgrade..

i wasn't going to fly business at all this time, since i'm flying alone (DH is 6' 7" tall and really really really needs the leg room), but i've been having a terrible time with my back and i'm worried that if i'm not careful, i'll end up in the hospital if i fly in an economy seat for that many hours..

well, i just now finally purchased my plane ticket for my flight on sunday night :)
i haven't actually paid, but i went ahead and let the TA issue the eticket...

not sure what the seat is yet, i haven't reached my TA since he emailed the eticket to me...

i still need to buy my medical insurance (and pay for the ticket)...

i guess there's no turning back now

I don't know if this is what Disneyholic means but I've found that for absolutely no reason as I get older I've starting thinking a lot more about flying beforehand. And when I say I 'thinking about flying' I actually mean thinking about a lack of flying. Mid journey.

Obviously if you're travelling on 2 planes each way rather than one then there's theoretically twice as much to think about. I've been looking at the prospect of flying indirect this year and I was definitely aware of the fact that it meant and extra take off and landing to negotiate. I can't say I get anxious exactly, but bad thoughts definitely pop in to my head.

Once I'm up in the air and on my way though - totally fine! Therefore, I'm perfectly happy flying, but it's the thinking about it beforehand that's the trouble.

Back on topic, yay for you booking your flight, and going Sunday...how exciting!

exactly!!! the flying doesn't bother me - it's the potential crashing that puts me off

in the end, i'm flying to JFK in New York....then Delta down to MCO...

Glad you have sorted out your flight :goodvibes

looking forward to meeting everyone on the 26th!!!

and by the way, i just paid for my flights (yikes!!)..

so let's see....i've already put by passport and american checkbook in my purse...

i've ordered my GPS device..

i still have to find my american paygo mobile phone...i hope i can find it, otherwise i'll have to buy something on the way from the airport to the resort..
i don't want to be left without..

i think i'd better look up where walmart is....

what else...

i still have to print out my important numbers page, itinerary, insurance info and put them into my purse as well..

i have to pack up my computer - i picked up a new plug that works in the US and a new network cable just in case i need it....

is there a best buy in the orlando area? i need to buy a new memory card for my camera....

so much to do, so little time...

i have to take care of my paperwork here before i leave....VAT and tax payment filings for this month and next (i'll be gone a month)..

so much to do, so little time :)
