Technically I don't think he's an "alaskan fisherman" if by alaskan you mean his heritage.

Sig hails from Seattle, Wash., where he lives in the off-season with his wife and two daughters.

Hansen, like his brothers, speaks fluent Norwegian. He learned Norwegian long before he learned English because his Norwegian parents spoke the language at home.

Sig Hansen and his brothers are from Norway. They live in America now but are in fact Norwegian. That is why they visit the Norway pavilion at Epcot. I am not sure if they are related to Helly Hansen. I have heard that but have not seen anything to confirm it.

He really isn't the star of the show he is just a favorite of many Deadliest Catch fans.

Many fans have a particular favorite captain and crew. The Northwestern is Sig Hansen's boat and his two brothers make up part of his crew. He is very popular among fans.

Sig is the captain of the family operated boat called the Northwestern and I believe they are the only boat that has been on every season (could be wrong). Therefore they are considered the "Stars" of the show, it can be argued either way.

This is great to hear.. we normally dont even go in the shops so I had no clue! DH is a huge DC fan.. we'll have to check this out when we go in January..
