Still a go for our trip to CCV in 5 days . . . we may be really dumb!

We are still a "go" for our trip to Orlando in 5 days. We are staying at CCV for 7 nights: my wife and two sons (14 and 11).

We don't know what the best thing to do is. We may be really dumb!

I am curious what others are thinking about Spring Break or summer trips.

At first I was really nervous that I would pick up the virus from Disney and then be responsible for school closings all around me when I returned home.
Then I realized that by the time I make it to Disney over spring break, it'll already be all over the place anyway. People are already infected with the virus and just don't know it yet, so I might as well go and enjoy my time there.

My wife and I feel like this thing is now in the community - like the actual flu or colds. We understand that it is more dangerous than the flu and we aren't going to seek out chances to get sick, However, unless we just stay more than 6 feet away from everyone and self-quarantine how do you really prevent catching it. Put more simply, it does not seem that the illness is so dangerous that we should fundamentally change how we live our lives, unless you have some underlying health issue or advanced age.

Why isn't there a similar reaction to drunk and distracted driving (40,000 deaths annually and 2,000,000 permanent injuries), the sale and use of illegal drugs (65,000 annual opioid overdoses), or even smoking (480,000 deaths annually in U.S.)? Why do we (people, humans) behave like this?

Because the media tells us to react this way, unfortunately.
I am not at all downplaying the seriousness of our current virus pandemic. It is a real thing that we all need to be aware of. There are just so many other things that we also need to constantly be aware of, and that we are ignoring.

Agreed. This virus is 25% serious and 75% media panic.

Advice: Be extra careful with keeping your hands clean, washing them or using hand sanitizer when you can't get to a bathroom. This is really good policy at WDW anyway, a place where you're going to come in contact with a lot of other people who're not from your area. I have a trip the first week in May and, as another poster said, I fully intend to go unless the joint's closed.

We hope to be able to go to WDW in May, July and September. We do have November and December trips as well, but I suppose they are in flu season, and I cannot say those would be taken. In October we had a cruise round trip from Rome and to Greece, Turkey and Israel....we have cancelled that.

I like your attitude toward multiple WDW trips a year! I think given everything we know now that cancelling your cruise is prudent regardless of whether you are in an at risk group.

Look here, Villages Guy. I NEED this trip. My mental health depends on it. So pack your bags, grab your hand sanitizer, and let's go!

I just got back from WDW (and CCV!). We washed our hands a lot and used hand sanitizer when we couldn't get to the bathroom. Unless you're in an at-risk group, I would still go. I do have another trip in late April and am concerned about my elderly mom and uncle going depending how things evolve in the next couple weeks, so we're keeping an eye on things.

We are retired and chose to use DVC as a second home instead of becoming snowbirds. We live in a resort town, Cape May NJ, and DH insists we go somewhere over 4th of July because our town is even crazier for those two weeks than WDW. WDW is my go to place for swimming and fireworks during that time!

We are going March 22-28, as planned. My 70 year old mother is coming with and she is in good health with no pre-existing conditions. The changes we will be making are wiping down our villa like crazy with disinfecting wipes when we get there, using hand sanitizer every time we get off a ride, washing hands frequently, and washing hands whenever we get back to the villa from a public place. Also, we are driving down and planning to take our car everywhere we can instead of Disney transit.

We will be at CCV from the 14th to 16th, then AKV from 16th to 19th. We were supposed to go on a Disney cruise next week but decided to cancel (not my decision).

Just wash your hands a lot and you’ll be fine.

You absolutely aren’t being dumb. You are living your life. If you aren’t in a high risk group there is nothing to worry about. Those in high risk groups obviously should take more precautions, but getting the coronavirus isn’t a death sentence even for them (the flu has a higher death rate based on expert estimates of the cases of coronavirus out there). We are going to WDW (our first DVC trip!) in April and aren’t concerned in the least. Go...have fun!!!
