Cast of Characters:

Steve (that’s me) – 32
Aaron (my SO) – 25

Trip Date – 1/31/01 – 2/4/01

Day 2 – EE or no EE (and a wild time at PI) 2/1/01

Well, I woke up and looked at the clock (6:30 a.m.). I guess we are not going to do early entry after all. Oh well, there will be another one on Saturday. I decided to let Aaron sleep and tried to quietly turn on the television. Big mistake as volume was at full blast and woke Aaron up. I asked him if we still wanted to try to do EE or make other plans. Make other plans he groaned, then rolled over and went back to sleep. I decided to channel surf and was amazed at how many Disney propaganda channels were on the resort tv. One just for the parks, one for the vacation club, one with clips of Disney broadway shows and upcoming films, one for the cruise, and then all the same shows in Spanish! Not to mention 2 different channels with just Disney cartoons. I channel surfed for awhile then decided to take a look outside to see what the weather was like – overcast and cold looking. Great, so much for upper 70’s weather. I got up and took a shower (getting everything wet) and started getting ready. Aaron got up and dressed and we were ready to leave by eight and off to MGM.

We brought a bunch of fruit cups and applesauce and fresh fruit as we were trying to keep to our healthy diets at least for breakfast. Well, walking through the food court (just to see what they had) I smelled the fresh cinnamon buns and I had to have one. Delicious! Aaron got a caupicino to give him a wake-up jolt.

We decided to drive to MGM so that if we were done early, we would go outlet shopping (one of our favorite activities in Orlando). Not much traffic and we were parked at MGM in a matter of minutes. No shuttle bus for us as we wanted to walk as much as possible on this trip (another attempt to stay healthy). As we were walking past all the people waiting for the tram, the Toy Story army men drove up in some kind of army jeep. No lines to get in the park and as it was not quite yet 9 a.m. we looked around some of the shops that were open.

I had read on this board that there was a new “Official Disney World CD” that had the Splash Mountain melody and that was a “must have” souvenir. CM I asked had never heard of it and offered to call around and see if anyone had it. Told her that it was okay as we would be here 4 days and was sure to find it. We made our way to the rope drop (with everyone else waiting to go on Tower of Terror) and CM ran up to us and told us she found cd at the Mickey Store at the front of the park. We thanked her and told her we would get it on our way out. Then they announced the park was opening and they dropped the rope.

We were able to maneuver to the front of the pack and we immediately headed for Rock N Coaster and were the second people on the ride (kid and his mother out maneuvered us to get to the front car). We next went over to Tower of Terror and thought about getting Fast Passes. As the stand-by time was only 10 minutes, we decided just to get in line. Only took about 5 minutes in stand by and we took our ride! I wanted to go see “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” as we had only seen it once before, but next show was not for another 22 minutes and we moved on. Went over to where the animation show is and instead got in line to get my picture taken with the MGM version of Mickey Mouse (Mickey is dressed like a hollywood director).

We then made our way over to the Great Movie Ride (trying to find the entrance is no easy task as there is construction going on around the front entrance – apparently there will be a huge Sorcerer hat there soon). I always enjoy the Great Movie Ride, but it is a bit dated and I think should have some kind of new scene added every once in awhile to keep it fresh.

We decided to skip the Backlot tour (been there, done that, was not impressed) and decided to go to the 10:30 a.m. Hunchback show. Now this has always been our favorite show (next to Festival of the Lion King at AK), but for some reason show felt off for this performance. Half way through the show, something went wrong and music stopped. Stage manager came out and said they were experiencing “technical difficulties” and show would start up again shortly. We decided to leave and I was glad we did. I had yet to have my picture taken with any of the Toy Story characters and as we exited the show and were right by “Big Al’s Toy Barn” Jesse, Woody, and Buzz Lightyear came out and as there were not crowds, I got my picture with all of them!

We were a little hungry and stopped at Pizza Planet to get a bite. We ended up each getting an individual size pizza and a salad (so much for the diet). Pizza was pretty good, but the salad was awful. I had blue cheese dressing and it tasted like it went bad. We ended up throwing both our salads away.

We then headed to Star Tours. We wanted to catch the 11:30 a.m. show of Doug Live! and were not sure if we would have time to get on Star Tours first. There was no wait and we walked right on. This is another ride that needs to be updated badly. I never really thought it had much to do with Star Wars in the first place. Made it to Doug Live! with 5 minutes to spare. They had already picked people out of the audience to be performers in the show (we both have been “Beats” before so it was okay as once was enough). One of my pet peeves at Disney are the people that go to the shows then sit in the middle and don’t move when CM’s ask everyone to move all the way down (and these are people who speak English so there is no excuse). They finally had to fight with some people to get them to move so everyone could get a seat (park was pretty empty, but the Doug show was packed). Show was great as usual (I love Doug!).

We decided to leave park at noon and stopped to pick up cd I wanted (great cd by the way). CM behind register asked me if I worked for Disney. She was surprised that I didn’t. She said I looked like someone who would work for Disney (took it as a compliment). We found our car and made our way to the new outlet stores that just recently opened.

Side story – inside joke for us is the “Mary, Queen of the Universe” church that just so happens to be by the new outlet stores. We had always joked that we wanted our picture in front of this sign and we finally got the opportunity.

The new outlet shops were great, but we didn’t buy much. New pair of Nikes for Aaron. A few things for myself at the Disney outlet (2000 screensaver, a couple of tank tops for my nieces). We headed back to the resort for a quick nap as we were going to use our PI dinner/dancing package that evening.

Next up: Planet Hollywood dinner experience/first meeting with cheerleaders/PI wild evening!
