stethoscope brands?

There are enough medical professionals on the DIS to staff a hospital. Let's hear your opinions.

I want to purchase a stethoscope and have been checking out allheart.com

I am surprised at the range of prices ($7-125). What would you recommend in the $20-30 range? Favorite brands? This is for general listening - no peds or cardio models.

i would have to say that litmans,are my fav. however they can run in the hundreds,a decent one can be around 55-95 bucks.

i'm a neonatal intensive care nurse.. and i personally think the littmann's are the best.. they have one on sale for 34.99 but, that's the cheapest..

The stethescopes my department buys are c-r-a-p. My littman is (literally) 25 years old, has never had the diaphragm replaced and works like a champ.

But they are pricey.

But worth the price.

I am a new RN and I received the Littman Master Cardiology as a graduation gift last May. I LOVE this stethoscope! We were comparing stethoscopes at work one day and everyone agreed that the Master Cardiology was the best.
The only negative is that it is a little heavier than other stethoscopes. I was in a uniform store recently and tested one of the cool looking Ultrascopes and I was very impressed. It was just as good, if not better than the Master Cardiology. I think I'm going to buy myself one and rotate between the two.

Another vote for Littmann. I've had mine almost twenty years and it's in great shape. The sound quality is very good. Get an unusual color; that way you will be able to recognize it more readily when a doctor starts to walk off with it.

I am not in direct care anymore, but still like my Littmann that I got in Nursing School.

The only stethoscopes I have ever really had are Littman's. There are some other brands that are really cheap, but, are probably not even worth as much as they cost.
