Has anyone used their points for a stay at a resort, other than Disney? How do the points needed, compare to WDW resorts? I'm talking about places in the Caribbean...Aruba, Bahamas, etc. Also, how do you calculate points for a Disney cruise? Thanks! :D

Hi, Sharon. Are you a DVC member? If so, all the point listings should be on the web site, and also in your member book (plus the supplementary passport for Interval exchanges).
If not, what totals specifically are you looking for?

Not a member yet, but seriously thinking about joining. I was just wondering how other resorts compare, point wise, to Disney resorts. We usually take two vacations a year, Disney is one, and somewhere else. I want to know if 150 points will enable us to take two vacations a year, using our points. Are the points needed at Disney resorts about the same as other resorts? Are they more than others? Less than others? If we stay in a studio, at OKW, at Adventure season, we will have about 110 points left. Would that be enough for a vacation somewhere else? Thanks!:D

To answer your question in very general terms, no, 110 points would not be enough, I used 156 points for a 3 night stay at Sagamore, Lake George, NY. If you want to vacation once a year at WDW and then somewhere else for a second time then I would buy enough points to vacation at WDW and use cash for the other trips, you get killed when you use your points away from WDW with Sagamore it was about 3 times expensive as staying at WDW in the same size unit.. I did it because I was tired of going to WDW so much.

Sharon, without rifling through my member book, I don't think 110 points will get you much outside of the DVC resorts. The Disney (non-DVC resorts) are a lot more points than DVC resorts, and trades through the other collections all seem to be more than 110 points.

Good luck with your decision.....

Sharon,
We used our DVC points several times outside of WDW. My daughter and her husband went skiing at Keystone during the high season and I think I used about 200 points for 6 nights. We have booked 2 Disney cruises - both 4 day cruises using disney points. Some people say it costs too many points to go outside WDW but we love being able to use our points for both WDW and other resorts. We have 400 points and this seems to work for us.

I know this is off-topic, but how did you like The Sagamore? We are considering going there or one of the Vermont resorts in the near future. I've heard good things about The Sagamore, but it would be nice to hear from someone who has been there recently.

Chadm--I will start another post for the Sagamore in a few minutes on the DVC board here.

Thanks. It would be nice to hear more about the Sagamore.

if you go world passport (Interval International) then you would need 124 for a 1-bedroom low season for a week stay.

124+40 (sun-thurs OKW Sept, Jan and dec 1-12) = 166 points.

if you want to stay for a week at OKW then 124+80 = 204 points.

now if would expect that World passport in a few years to go up so could the adventure season at OKW

so I would get 225 minimum. for two vacations a year using DVC.

Now you could go DVC for just your WDW vacations - then get another timeshare for trading.

go see
www.tug2.net
for more information about other timeshares for trading.

DVC is not a good buy for trading - maintence fees are high - some of the other timeshares are not quite as high and trade pretty good - I like my South Africia so far - have not done a difficult trade.
