I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to get from the airport to our offsite hotel and back again next weekend. We're going for a quick weekend trip, in on Friday morning out on Sunday evening. I've looked into renting a car, but there are 6 of us, so that is pretty expensive. It doesn't look like our hotel has an airport shuttle at all, just Disney shuttles. I've heard a lot about Uber and Lyft, but I'm not sure what I'd have to get to make sure all 6 of us fit.

Any insight?

Cheapest is going to be Lynx bus service, about $2 please each way if it stops near your hotel.
Mears Shuttle is about $40 pp r/t.
Uber SUV (size you would need) estimate is upwards of $88 total each way.
Taxi van would be $60ish each way.

Hi,

For Uber, you can request an UberXL which holds up to 6 people (I use to work for them at an office). Lyft has Lyft Plus that is the same as UberXL.

If you have anyone that needs a carseat, Uber has UberFAMILY now that has a carseat in the car.

I'm not sure if personal referral codes are allowed but you can always search online for a new rider promo code

I'd find out more info about your hotel's Disney transportation. Most off site hotels that offer something, have very limited service and it can be very frustrating, feeling like you're wasting a lot of time. Unless you've stayed there before and know what to expect, most people here on the Dis (myself included) agree that to have a good, off site stay, you need the freedom of a rental car.

I would get a minivan but that's jmho. Two smaller cars would probably run the same amount and while it would cost more for parking, it would give your group more flexibility. If someone doesn't want to spend all day & night at the parks, he/she/they could leave and other could stay in the park.

You cant request an UberXL from the airport exactly. You need to move the pin off site, and request it to there, and then message the driver and tell him to pick you up at the Airport Hyatt. UberX and UberXL are not allowed to pick up at MCO currently, but they can pick up at the MCO Hyatt, which is basically inside the airport.

If its your first time using uber, search around for a 15 or 20$ of your first ride code. With this code the Cost of the trip should be under $20.

I actually find it MUCH less stressful to take an Uber around town, then I do driving. I enjoy driving at home, but when on Vacation I prefer to be able to look around, or make plans on my phone while traveling from the hotel to the parks.

Unless you are planning on taking some day trips to the beach/space center, or any other far away destination, it will be cheaper to take an Uber around town than rent a car, and pay for parking, in most circumstances.

Unless it has changed, Uber is not allowed to pick up from MCO. They can drop off, but are not able to pick up passengers. So OP still doesn't have a way to get to their off site hotel.

Read all of the posts. In my previous post I explained how to use Uber from MCO. Even if they took a regular taxi from the airport to their hotel, and then used Uber the rest of the trip, chances are they would still come out cheaper then paying to rent a car, the insurance, gas, tolls, and parking for their trip, unless you are taking a long day trip outside of the Orlando area.

We do cheaper long weekend trips to Orlando a couple times of year when we don't do our big on-site Disney trips. We always take a Lynx bus from MCO to get to our hotel and then use the hotel shuttles and/or Uber to get around. We like to stay at the hotels around SeaWorld as most of them offer free park shuttles and we can just walk over to SeaWorld (and ride the free shuttle to Busch Gardens). You can look up the routes on the Lynx website www.golynx.com I believe. The bus drops us off right in front of our hotel and it's easy to find the pick up location in the airport (and is mostly filled with other tourists). It takes about an hour to ride the bus from the airport to our hotel in the SeaWorld area. We don't mind as we're not usually in a hurry on arrival day and $4 in transportation is a great savings to spend elsewhere during the trip!

One of our Uber drivers stated that he knows a family that gets on the first public bus that pulls up, gets off at the first stop, and then Ubers from there (since they can't pick up at the airport).

Some trips we just go ahead and splurge on the rental car (like if we're doing more than just one day at a Disney park). While having the hotel shuttle to the parks is nice, most of the time they drop you off at 8-9 a.m. at the Ticket & Transportation Center and don't come back until 10-11 p.m. that night. That's a very long day! Sometimes we just take it one way and Uber back when we're ready to leave.
