Staying in the lobby?

I would get a room at a value for the night. Pack a separate bag for stuff you will need that night/next morning.

Check in, go to sleep. Wake up, check out, have WDW move your luggage to your new resort. Take a cab to the new hotel, check in, and then bus to the park. You can get a good solid 6 hours of sleep doing this, and in a bed ;)

Even if you were allowed to sleep in the lobby... Don't do this to yourself. You cannot take advantage of your day/have as much fun when you're exhausted. It could also ruin your whole stay if you are sensitive to lack of sleep.

DH and I once woke up at 5:00 AM to take an early flight and after check-in, we went directly to the park for the Christmas Party. At 10:00 pm we were very tired and miserable and did not have fun anymore. What a waste!

I also suggest you allow yourself to sleep a little bit longer than what you planned. Focus on good FP+ matches and a great schedule to save time, instead of cutting on sleep.

Book 1 more night to the planned hotel (best option) or ... I would suggest to find the cheapest room you can find in WDW with a discount (that way, at least you get Magical Express + you're already in WDW when you wake up). Bring your luggage to bell service once you are ready to leave for the park and send them to your next hotel. If you need to check-in before you get to the park, take a cab, it will be faster.

First of all yes this was my first post and I am new but it wasn't a joke I was just looking for advice and opinions. Isn't that what this website is for?

Secondly thank you all for your ideas and suggestions, I'm not saying we are going to do this I was just wondering what other would do. My husband booked this as a surprise and we were lucky that he could get two days off of work, he is a police officer and his post is in a large school district so during the school year he can't take time off ( I had a baby in June and they let him have 2 days off).
I actually called Disney myself and explained to them my idea and the representative said to me that that is perfectly ok and I would be surprised how many people actually do this. That being said I am going to look into staying at the airport or adding an extra day once the discounts come out.
Don't take the risk.

I mean...it might work, you *might* get to hang out in the lobby the night of your flight (though you'll get very little sleep and probably will not have much fun the day after). However, you also might not get to hang out in the lobby. You might get asked to buy a room (and you won't get a last minute discount, you'll pay rack rate) or asked to leave the premises altogether...and what will you do at that point?

Do you really want to risk being asked to leave the property or buy a room at 2 a.m.?

And trust those who tell you that when you call the number for your Disney hotel, you are NOT talking to someone who actually is onsite at that hotel or has ever been to that hotel. Disney is great...but also notorious for having a call center staffed by cast members who know very little about what actually goes on on Disney hotel properties, restaurants, parks, etc.

Get a room near the airport or a value at Disney, no question.

If you get a room near the airport, priceline should give you good deals. We usually fly to Disney on very early morning flights from National in Washington...it's not the closest hotel to us, but they have great prices on direct flights. Prices so good that a cheap hotel near the airport still saves us money compared to flying from the airport 15 minutes away from our house. I bid on priceline, and in the past two years, have spent the night before flying out to Disney at really nice hotels near National and have not paid more than $70. I paid $60 to stay at a Hilton this past October...and the cheapest room that hotel had on sites such as Travelocity and Orbitz was over $200. I don't know if you can find the same price savings bidding on priceline near MCO in Orlando, but it's worth a shot.

If that doesn't work, get a room at a Disney value. It's a decent place to lay your head down and SLEEP for six or so hours. Just pack a small bag with what you need for that night. In the morning, leave bigger luggage and your small bag at bell services, and they will transfer it to your next hotel onsite. I've done that before, and it worked out fine.

But, seriously, don't put yourself at risk of getting into a rather uncomfortable and potentially trip-ruining situation in the middle of the night by hanging out in your hotel lobby. It will probably be more expensive if you are asked to leave than just finding a cheaper room now...and, as I said, it would put a huge downer on your vacation before it even gets started.

Hotels are in the business of selling rooms to SLEEP in, they sell by the night, not the day. Chances of them allowing you to sleep in the lobby are slim to none, and without an active reservation, you may not even be allowed on the property. People sleeping in lobbies can turn into a security issue and I'm sure that's the last thing WDW wants. Do yourself a favor and take an earlier flight, or book a Value for the night.

>>I would have to get at least a few hours of sleep and take a shower before considering heading out to the parks. <<

What he/she said..,
a bed and a shower are all you need.

I can't believe Disney allows people to sleep in their lobbies!! Common sense would be, um NO! Why the lobby, why not just pull up some pool chairs and gt comfy! Oh goodness!

Best bet, they Hyatt at MCO for the night, don't unpack, just lay your head on the pillow and bed, wake up and get on the first DME to Disney.

At first I thought this was a joke. No way would my family ever agree to stay in the lobby! My advice would be to get a cheap room about an hour from WDW...we do this a lot. They are nice and being an hour from the parks makes it a lot cheaper.

Why not look into renting points for a studio the first night? If you went through Dave's it would be around $225, probably less if you went directly through an owner. You could pack an overnight bag; maybe you could even leave the rest at bell services until your resort room is ready the next day. That would be less $ but still be a lot more convenient for you.

From what I have observed the hotel lobbies are cleaned during the night. So I don't think you would get much sleep with someone vaccuming around you. I'm it would be fine to wait in the lobby for a couple of hours. I've seen people napping in the lobbies during the day. But...I'm sure if you arrived at 10:30 pm at night and stretched out on a sofa to sleep all night then that would not be allowed. I would find a cheap hotel near the parks or near the airport.

We are in this same situation in January. Rather than pay for another night at French Quarter, we are taking magical express to pop and going right to sleep. In the morning we will bring our bags to bell services to move and we will head straight to the parks. This way we are also getting one day of dining plan. It's not cost effective for us, but since our first dinner is at ohana, plus a lunch at be our guest, we'll save a bit on the plan for only one day.

Not exactly on topic but now I'm wondering at what point you "stayed" at a resort at night.

Someone above said you can start check in to get tickets and leave bags at bell services by 6:30 although the room is very likely to not be ready.

if someone arrived at 5:00 AM most would say they got there that morning. And sitting in the lobby and waiting until you could check in wouldn't be that weird.

So at what point did they get there the night before?

I'm not sure the sitting in the lobby is the difference because if I got there at 2:00 and wanted to sit in the lobby and see if my room becomes ready pretty quickly no one would stop me then (and I have seen adults sleeping in the lobby on a few occasions but always in the middle of the day)

The last paragraph, you mean 2pm, yes?

I would think that a hotel would consider "normal sleeping hours" to be the time when sleeping in the lobby isn't OK. Or in another way of thinking of it, you can officially check in at a WDW resort after 6am. At that point, once you do the checkin process, you are a guest of the resort and have access to the amenities. Before then, though, you aren't a registered guest.

The resorts turn over the day at around 6AM. So if you have a reservation for a night, you will be a late arrival if you arrive at 5AM the next day. If you arrive at 5AM the same day, your reservation hasn't started yet.

You don't reserve by the day. You reserve by the night and the night goes past midnight. Official check in is 3PM and official check out is 11AM. But you can check in as early as 6AM.

To me, I would have booked 3 nights at a Moderate Disney hote instead of 2 nights full price at Beach club!

I think this is a joke. Where is the OP???

I have the answer, find someone who has booked a "throw away" room and stay there. :) (obviously just a joke)

I agree that staying at a hotel at the airport is your best bet.

Honestly, the OP's question is not that bizarre. She'd literally get to her resort at approx.1-130am right? 6 hours later, she'd be on the bus on her way to MK. I find it silly to get a hotel offsite for 5 hours! I also find it ever sillier to pay for a DELUXE ROOM (CHA-CHING!) for a few hours! No way in heck would I do that! Staying in the lobby isnt ideal BUT the thought would cross my mind too. :lmao:
Since she has a reservation for the following morning, I doubt they'd kick her out. But as I said, a hotel at MCO is the way to go. :thumbsup2

And btw, not all CM's give out incorrect information. i've seen people camped out in lobbys before. Its not that unusual!
