looking for good all around gold info about the disney courses...im about a 7 handicap so i m not too shabby....looking to play once or twice...dont care if i have to drive around..is lake buena vista nice..sonce its so close

They have been renovating the greens on the LBV course, so it has been closed. Depending on when you will be there, it may not be an option.

I think any of the other courses (Eagle Pines, Osprey Ridge, Palm and Magnolia) should work well for you and there are many other local courses nearby too.

Enjoy!

I would hit up Osprey Ridge. Beautiful and challenging Fazio design on property. I dont really have a favorite amongst the others, I dont think you'd be unhappy with any of them. If you wanted to venture off property, Grand Cypress has a remake of the Old Course at St. Andrews that Jack Nicklaus did. It can be pretty pricey to play there if you arent a hotel guest....

DH is also a single digit handicap, plays from the back tees. He likes LBV best, especially if you're staying at OKW. If you have someone who can stay at the villa while you golf, it's so much fun to wave at your villa as you go by.

Osprey Ridge is probably the most challenging course, though, but Palm and LBV have lots of water. Check out this website: www.wdwgolf.com
for more info.

First off, if you are a DVC member look into the DVC Golf Membership. It costs $50.00 for a year membership and can save a significant amout on the greens fees at certain times of the year. The major restriction to the membership is that play must start after 10AM. If you are playing by yourself, the membership can still work at certian times of the year. For example, the greens fees for the October-December time frame are $135.00 at Ospery Ridge and Magnolia courses and $119 at LBV and Palm. With the membership the fee is $50.00, so the $50.00 membership plus the $50.00 grees fees, you are saving $ on just one round. If you are playing with others, you can get the $50.00 rate for each person in your group (up to 4).

As far as the courses are concerned, LBV is supposed to re open at the end of September. The last I heard was that Eagle Pines will be taken out of service on August 1st to make way for the Four Seasons project. Osprey Ridge will also be taken out of service at sometime in the future for this project.

As to courses to play. If I were going to play just once, I'd play Osprey Ridge without question. If you want to play where the pros play their tourney, the Palm and Magnolia are the venues. The final is on the Magnolia. I love the Palm as a golf course, but, in my opinion, the one drawback to the Palm and Magnolia is the noise created by the Richard Petty NASCAR Experience attraction. This is across from the 5th green/6th tee and gets very, very loud. LBV is current the least utilized of the courses. I like the front 9 that winds through OKW and there are a couple of holes on the back that are interesting, but there are also a couple of very ordinary holes. LBV is usually not on the top of my priority list of must plays at WDW but it is still nice.

I've played all of the Disney courses at least once, some three or four times. I'm curently a 12 handicap, so not quite on your level.

I think my favourite at the moment is Palm, followed by Eagle Pines and LBV. Unfortunatley Eagle Pines is closed permanently from the start of August.

Osprey Ridge is a fantastic looking course, but when I played it I played terribly so didn't enjoy it much. I'm playing it twice in August so hopefully I'll enjoy it a lot more this time! I did find that Osprey Ridge was designed to trick the eye and catch you out more than the others.

Magnolia is also a nice course, but it didn't fit my eye as well as Palm, and didn't seem to have as much character to me.

If I was to play once i'd probably pick Palm or Osprey Ridge, but I think Palm would win as I found that from the tee it's clear where you should and shouldn't go, which I prefer to a course designed to deceive. Plus of course it's played on tour.

I liked Fantasia but the yellow ball wasn't my style. I wish I picked the orange one.

Play Eagle Pines if you can, as others have said it will close in August. Osprey is scheduled to close in 2010 as well. Be sure to take advantage of Disney's golf club transportation if you are playing more than one course. You can also have Disney foot the bill for your transportation to the course. On the day of your first round go to the bell stand and ask for a voucher to which ever course you are playing. They will then call a taxi and give you a voucher that will cover the ride as well as the gratuity! If after your first round you have a second round scheduled, Disney will transport your clubs to the next course so there is no need to carry them back and forth.

We can tell you from experience how wonderful both of those services are. We went down in May for our friends birthday and played 4 rounds. We stayed at SSR, played our first round at Eagle Pines, then Palm, Magnolia and finally LBV. We never moved the clubs the whole time. I tipped a bellman to get them from my room and put them in the cab. Another cast member took them from the cab and put them on the carts. After each round a castmember cleaned and stored them, or had them delivered to the next course. The last round was at LBV and the guys at the end of the day actually cleaned the clubs and gave us a lift back to our room. It was worth every dollar we tipped them. These guys were great!

We would say have a great time, but we shouldn't have too! Disney and golf... perfect together!!!

Try the Sandtrap restaurant too if you get a chance, nothing spectacular, but a nice place none the less. The view is incredible, it over looks the 18th of Eagle Pines.

My son is a 6 handicapper and he wants to play one of the Disney courses when we go in October.

People's favourite courses seem to vary - but he likes to play challenging courses. Which would you suggest? We are members of DVC so are interested in the members rates. Someone mentions $50 membership and $50green fees ?? Sounds good when the rates for playing alone are $135 !!

Do we contact our Guest Rep for details of this?

Any info would be of help.
