Just an FYI for anyone planning a visit to Jambo. We checked in today and when we stopped at the store to rent a movie, which we do quite often and have always enjoyed this benefit, we were told by the cashier that she was advised last night they could no longer rent out movies at Jambo as there were issues getting them returned and that guests now had to go to Kidani to rent them. I stopped at the front desk at Jambo to complain and was told by the front desk agent that they were "redoing their inventory" and that was why I had to go to Kidani. Not sure how long they plan on doing is for, but I do not feel as a member I should have to travel all the way to Kidani to rent a movie as it is extemely inconvenient. We stay Jambo because we prefer it here. If I wanted to stay at Kidani, I would have. Am I being too nitpicky?

I hope it is a temporary thing. I also prefer Jambo. I was there for a week in June & rented & returned 3 movies. You are right, i agree that it would be very inconvenient to go to Kidani for these simple transactions. I think both buildings have enough people to warrant a rental enter at each.

I don't think you are nit picking. I have rented many times at Jambo. We too prefer it there. It is nonsense to have to go to Kidani. Why would anyone be more likely to return them to Kidani than to Jambo. They need to enforce penalties if they are not returned, a $20 -$30 room charge perhaps. It is so annoying when a few inconsiderate people ruin it for everyone else.

Not much that you can do about it, hop on the shuttle and check out a couple of movies. Have a great vacation.

If it is a temporary inventory issue and you're upset, you're too nitpicky. If it is permanent, then you have every right to be annoyed!

Either way, be careful. My husband is the one who usually goes down and gets the movies but we had our 12 year old son go and choose some movies by himself. The CM charged him 5 dollars for each rental. My husband then had to go and have the charge corrected which took longer than the original visit. When all was said and done, he wasn't sure that the charge had been fixed until we received our itemized bill. Talk about not inspiring any confidence.

Yeah, you're being too nitpicky. At SSR and OKW, you have to go to the main building, no matter where you are staying. The exercise will do you good.

Although we always stay at Kidani these days, I can see CDM's point. When one gets used to the system one way and they make a change to it such that you need to plan for the new change then it becomes an inconvenience. Hiking over to Kidani, although not a bad walk or bus/van trip, is not something I'd be happy about being told I needed to do if I were expecting be able to borrow them at Jambo.

If this change is simply because Jambo hasn't kept up with the returns then they're probably too busy and have some changes to make to their system to make it work. At Kidani we receive a call every morning we've forgotten to return the movie(s) - they know exactly what's out and who has it. I also believe that non-returned movies are charged, but cant' say for sure as we've been pretty good about returning ours.

Hmm.... now I have to wonder how many Kidani movies are going to be "misplaced" if the borrowers over at Jambo need to make a special trip back to return them.

:) Kidani never has the movies I want, so DH and I enjoy the new cable channels...thank goodness they made that change.

For our last trip we used an HDMI cable and simply hooked up our iPad. We could watch movies that we bought with us, movies from Nexflix, or something from the iTunes store. Makes me wonder how long they will keep renting movies....

I'm not trying to sound rude but I don't see a big issue. You can walk over, its a lovely 7-10 minute walk or take the free shuttle. no biggie in my eyes.

I had to go to Kidani. Not sure how long they plan on doing is for, but I do not feel as a member I should have to travel all the way to Kidani to rent a movie ! It's not at "At World's End", it's literally next door, a short walk, and if necessary a shuttle away!

Am I being too nitpicky?Yes!

2 things I would ask myself:

1. Is this such a big deal to me that I would book a different stay, should the hammer come down and never again would a rental video be available at Jambo?

2. Would walking and/or taking the shuttle be such a very big incovenience to get and return a video?

Now, for me the answer is no, I enjoy walking (even in August) and the little bit of time it would take wouldn't bother me nor hinder my vacation pleasure!

But you're circumstances, physical health, likes or dislikes may be different than mine, so if it's a big deal complain and keep complaining, and they may change it back to the way it was!

Good Luck!

I think a difference is that there is only one store area to have movies at both SSR and OKW. Jambo and Kidani are a different set up.

Hopefully this is temporary. And the worst part IMO is the silly reason (a pet peeve) of movies not being returned. How is having them at Kidani going to help that?!?!? Ridiculous although I'd suspect it was CM providing their own opinion rather than fact. And it's not like they can't do anything about it since they do have you check them out.

This is true. I go from building to building, but it isn't even easy for me to go up/down the van shuttle. I will send a note to MS, there's no sense in just hoping that it is temporary.

Depending on where you are in Jambo that 7 minute walk can be an easy 20 minute walk. Then add the walk back. We have stayed at AKV several times and have never seen this shuttle. I also have no problem letting my 10 year old go return the video at Jambo but would have a problem letting her go to Kidani by herself. Thus what took me no time might now take 40 minutes.

they could no longer rent out movies at Jambo as there were issues getting them returned and that guests now had to go to Kidani to rent them.

One wonders how putting then in an entirely different building is going to make it easier to get them returned....

lilmrsellis, your ticker shows that you are 165 weeks pregnant! That is very impressive! :)

I just bring my own on an iPad or iPod with a video connector since they never have anything good anyway. They are always out and never come back in during the times we went to look. I gave up.

FWIW reply from MS:
Hello Barbara,

Thank you for contacting DISNEY VACATION CLUB.

We appreciate your interest in the amenities available at DISNEY'S
ANIMAL KINGDOM Villas – Jambo House. At this time, Member video rentals
are temporarily only available at DISNEY'S ANIMAL KINGDOM Villas –
Kidani Village. As we review the video rental program available at the
resort, we appreciate you bringing your opinion to our attention.

Our decision to offer video rentals through Kidani Village was not based
on lack of returns at Jambo House. We are constantly looking for new
and inventive ways to bring more value and fun to Membership perks.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. You may
be assured your input will be taken seriously.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Sincerely,

Thanks Bobbi! Obviously the clerk in the store I spoke with didn't have her story straight :) We went movieless in the room this visit, which turned out rine. I did email member services, but I did not receive an email back like you did. I got a voicemail that said my concern had been forwarded
