Staying at home resort or sleep around after many years of ownership?

We are newer owners and we want to experience all the resorts. Home is Copper Creek, but we just recently stayed at Boardwalk and Kidani. Loved both. We do love Wilderness Lodge though. I think it's all personal preference, but the split stay was a good thing for us.

Last trip was Boardwalk/Kidani. Split stays are where it is at for the strategically undecided.

Used to own OKW and AKV, now just AKV. I've stayed all over and like them all for different reasons. My favorite are the two listed - they just simply feel like "home" when I enter the resort. I even felt that way at Jambo house before they built the villas, so when they announced I purchased sight unseen and have never regretted it. As far as OKW - well, look at my username. :D

We have owned SSR since 2006 and we DO like it there but we like to alternate resorts every other trip to switch things up. For us, that was part of the attraction of buying into a timeshare - we liked the option of being able to stay at different resorts so that each trip is different from the last one. Especially since we usually go 2 or 3 times a year. We have no problem staying at SSR but over the years have stayed at every DVC resort (incl Vero, HHI & Aulani). I think that's pretty darned cool.

At WDW we do not own at OKW, POLY, CC and RIV. Of those, OKW would be our last resort. We have stayed at Poly AND CC, and think they are fine resorts.

So usually, we are staying at a home resort, even if we are using other points to stay there. Next week, our BCV stay was made with BWV points, at only 10 days out!

We have owned since 2003.

We have been DVC since '93 and trade out of OKW about 95% of the time.
We love AKL-J and BCV and love that we can use our OKW points for those resorts.

Your first love will always have a special place in your heart, they say. My first love was BLT, so it's a special place to me. AKV is also very special to me (my 2 homes).

That said, variety is the spice of life, and I love a little variety. Every time I plan my vacation, I take a little time to see which resort speaks to me at that time. Sometimes it's my home, sometimes it's not. I want to try every one (there are only a few I am missing). But every trip is unique and every time I feel a little different, so I can never predict where I am going to want to stay until I make the reservation.

All but one of my 60+ stays has been at OKW since 1992. That stay was in a poly studio. I do want to try for a one bedroom Savannah View at Kidani next June, though.

When we purchased in May 2004 (17 years back) there were already a good number/variety of resorts in the DVC system ... so our points, from Day 1 of purchase, were "network points." We didn't visit our "home resort" until Dec 2009.

More recently, given Covid, we've been staying pretty close to our real home in California ... so only one specific DVC location is a "good fit" for present and near term use. We are sure glad DVC is a "network" of properties! We saw a string of DVC @ WDW reservations cancelled through 2020 ... and simply gave up for awhile.

We've been enjoying plenty of nearby trips (driving) across 2021 ... and just came home from our 1st interstate travel since Covid. It was funny, at our final fuel stop, to ask ourselves, "Wait. What state are we in and what are the local rules on wearing a mask before entering for restrooms?" Hmmm. Felt surreal all over again. But, Yeah! We travelled! Yeah!!

Return to WDW? Harrumph. That might be awhile. We just purchased Magic Key passes for DLR ... and it is so close. It might be a long time before return to our "home" resort at WDW. No worries ... no DVC points lost or in danger at the present time. :)

OKW owner since '97 and we love it there. Stayed at a few of the others, and our goal now is to stay at resorts we've never been to, so.....just booked today at BLT for next March, with Riviera next on the wish list.

We own at OKW and used to own at VWL, but mostly stayed at OKW. Now that we only have one OKW contract and after 21 years we have branched out. Last stay was at the Poly Bungalows. One before that was Riviera and one before that was BLT. These stays all in the last two years. But, next booked is OKW in January.

It's only our second trip and we're already sleeping around. We stayed home at OKW first. If it's just us in a studio I like to try new places, so we are at AKV in 2 weeks (originally supposed to be Poly). If it's a big family trip (6+ people) I like the larger OKW rooms.
