Hi everyone...I know it's early, but I am trying to decide where to eat the first night of our stay in October. It will be me, my mom (at 66, her first trip ever!), DS8 and DD6. I was thinking of Chef Mickeys because the kids and I have eaten here in the past but then I was thinking of maybe heading over to the MK and eating at either Tony's or Crystal Palace. We arrive on a Saturday so I know the MK will probably be busy but I don't care really since we will be so close anyway and I am sure my mom will be anxious to see it. I think she thinks the MK isWalt Disney World. haha! I don't think she quite understands how huge it really is! Anyway, thanks for any suggestions!

I guess Chef Mickey's just seems like the obvious choice for me with the ages of your kids and all. I know a family who HAS to have dinner at CM the first night of every trip and they don't even stay at the CR!

That's my vote! You could always head over to the MK after dinner if you felt like it, or take it nice and easy on arrival day and be ready to hit the parks in the morning. Either way, it will be nice to be welcomed by Mickey and the gang on arrival day!

I like the idea of heading over to MK for dinner. Take advantage of how close to MK you are. Besides, Chef Mickey's may be all right for the kiddos, but the food is just so terrible for adults. We didn't have good Character interaction last time we went. We went solely for the Grandsons & they didn't get much Character time at all - it was chaotic & the adults all needed to go someplace else to eat afterwards.

For Buffets, I do like Crystal Palace. Or you could even just do Counter Service so you can focus on riding & burning off some pent-up energy the kids might have from traveling.

We are checking in on Monday and we have ADRs at Chef Mickey's for supper. Since we do not want to go to a park the first day we arrive and it's right in the hotel. I also wanted DD to have character meal to start the trip off, though we have at least one everyday we're there so I guess we've resigned ourselves to the buffet choices :lmao:

Since your arriving that day I would go with Chef Mickey's or even The Wave. Also if you don't feel like a table service restaurant or a buffet, have you thought of trying the Contempo Cafe which is the Contemporary's brand new counter service location.

I wouldn't go into MK just to eat at night. Since it is a weekend and so crowded, you will have to use a day pass and probably won't get to ride too many rides (if anything!). Chef Mickey's has great characters, but be warned that the food isn't very good. Last time I was there most of the food was cold and there was barely a selection. I've also heard that from quite a few other people. The Wave is located at the CR and I've had has a great meal:thumbsup2 I think that could be a relaxing first night meal!

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone. I'm still undecided so I guess it's a good thing that I am planning early...I'll have more time to decide! I think I am leaning towards going into the MK since we have 8 day hopper passes. Might as well get some use out of them!
