i'm looking for suggestions for our first day at AKV

we're planning oing going to Blizzard Beach for the afternoon but it closes at 5pm

we'll have already done DTD the two nights before while staying at cash resorts and don't want to use up a park day just for an evening.

is there anything at the resort to do in the evening?

what non park things can we do?

what goes on at night at Beach Club or Board Walk?

we were thinking of having dinner at Boma then go out for a few hours but if there is another suggestion i'd love to hear it.

any ideas

When we stayed there they had nice comfy rockers outside around a campfire at night. I believe at a certain time they tell stories out there as well. We also enjoyed some seats in the lobby around a fireplace as well.

They have all kinds of events going on every day.

Last summer when we were there, there was the storytelling around the campfire, charcoal rubbing the animals on the lobby floor, headress and basket making - stuff like that going on for the kids all day - every day.

We didn't actually participate but passed by while some of these thins were going on. It looked like a lot of fun.

Rob :)

There is a bulletin board downstairs beside the bathrooms next to Boma - it lists times and activities for the day. DH and I had an evening to kill like you, and we did the night-vision of the savannah, which was cool. Wandered around the gift shop, enjoyed the ambiance of the lobby. You could always go over to the Fort Wilderness free outdoor movies, front desk could connect you to FW to see what movie is playing that night. Or go to the Polynesian or WL beach and enjoy the electric water parade and Wishes. Lots of neat (and free) stuff to do at each resort. Enjoy your trip!

I have been numerous times, I did not know about the bulletin board, Thanks! To OP, We always particiapate in the night-vision of the Savanna. There is a CM from Africia that will be there ( or the times I have done this, there has been) He or She is very interesting to talk with. I even take my own night-vision glasses. One of my sons bought me a pair for Christmas 2 years ago.

AKV is a great place to relax in a hot tub, too. And the pool is very pretty for swimming at night.

I'd do Jikos for dinner and then enjoy the resort. The gift shop is great, too, and easy to kill time in.

I love Arusha rock at night. Also sitting in those big rocking chairs and enjoying the peace and quiet.

great ideas

i'll also mention that our dd will be 3.5 when we go so i don't think "relaxing" is in the cards LOL

I think you should definately check out the movie playing at Fort Wilderness. That has been one of my favourite things to do since I was going to WDW as a child.

Well, the giraffe rides end at 5:00pm so make sure you get there early :)

we'll be going to FW one night in the middle for dinner at the Hoop dee doo and we'll be staying for the camp fire after - we'll keep the movie in mind too

do you know what time they both start?

In addition to what everyone has said about the activities at AKV, the Boardwalk itself has roaming performers, magicians, etc. each night. You could stroll along and take in the sights there. They have kiosks with food, drinks, ice cream, etc. Those caricature artists have stands set up. I don't know what time they close but I've seen people riding the surrey bikes right on the Boardwalk, too. It's fun to just walk around and take it all in.
