Staying at a deluxe or moderate, how much did you spend on Disney?

For 5 people, for 6 nights 7 days deluxe, buying all meals and airfare, we usually spend about $200pp per day. So $7000 for a week, give or take a few hundred dollars. Same thing when we cruise. We don't go the cheapest way, or the most expensive way.

If I am travelling peak and deluxe is very expensive, I will sub out a few deluxe days for POFQ.

I'll play.... but for those of you who 'suspect' others #'s....you might question ours too....since I make it a science to save...:cool1:

It is the resort we wanted since we wanted to stay close to Epcot to enjoy Food and Wine but FD promotion definitely helped.

Besides tips, we will be renting a car to visit the dark side ;) a couple of days, so we are looking around another $1000 in spending.

May I ask about the rewards card you use? I don't really know a lot about them and they always seem like a mystery to me. I use cards that give me cash back or put money in an account for college for the boys, but I always wonder if we would do better with another type of card.

Deluxe - Grand Floridian

number of people including age - just me (age 31), first solo trip!

Fly or drive - fly from Philly - $212

Length of stay - 3 days, 2 nights - $782

Did you book a resort b/c of price or deal you got or because thats resort you wanted? I originally wanted Poly but got turned off because the standard room didn't have a balcony (I love to wake up early and sit on a balcony with coffee). So I paid $80 more for the GF, which I've been in love with all my life anyway!

Park hopper tickets - not "technically" included, since I bought a 10-day non-expiring pass a year ago (I go on 3-day trips every 8 or so months) from Undercover Tourist. The cost per day for that was about $65 I think. But after my first usage I like to pretend the other trips are free:)

MVMCP ticket - $62

TOTAL: $1206 ($1336 if you count my non-expiry ticket days)

Park tickets: 8 day base

Our total cost for the Disney package is $5,745 plus some change.

There's also a possibility that we'll take a day and go to Universal. Still undecided on that. Guess I'll start pinching my pennies now just in case we do.

Because we have such a long drive, we break it down into a day and a half getting there so we have one overnight stay at a hotel on our drive down. We'll grab fast food during the drive and there will be gas expense. I figure about $275.00 to get there.

On the way home, we drive straight through which is anywhere from 14 to 16 hours depending on weather and traffic. There will be fast food and gas expenses to get home as well.

We take annual vacations to Disney each year and have for the past 16 years. Most of our 18 trips have been in May but have also been in early August, Labor Day and Thanksgiving. Because we know that we will be returning, I budget accordingly.

We go out to eat about once a month, rarely go to the movies (well, our teenager goes much more often that we adults do) and we take our lunches to work every day. We have a garden that supplies our household with lots of veggies that last almost through to the next year.

Our family does make other trips during the year to Tennessee or to neighboring States to simply get away from "real" life but those are very budget conscious trips.

We don't make anywhere near the 100k that someone else suggested that a person who spends $5,000k on a vacation does. I wish that we did. I am a paralegal, my husband a commercial cabinet builder and we own our own cabinet shop too.

I also sew Disney themed dresses and backsacks that I sell to my Dis friends and, sometimes on EBay. Every little bit helps.

Deluxe or Moderate (which resort): Deluxe split stay, 2 nights Yacht Club and 2 nights Poly (it's been a dream of mine to stay there)

number of people including age: 2 40-something adults, 3 kids ages 14, 12, and 5

Fly or drive: Fly $1454.50 (price is high because we are flying home the weekend after Thanksgiving)

Length of stay: 5 day park-hoppers from UT $1690 (might add another day when we get there)

dining plan or out of pocket: out of pocket

Promotions: Purchased rooms through Travelocity with a promo code and got all 4 nights for $1040

Total so far is $4184.50 but DOES NOT include rental car, food and spending money. Plus we may add another night off property ($125 plus $50 ticket upgrade) So I'm thinking this trip will cost us about $6500. Have not spent this much for a trip since 2006.

Moderate: POR, Royal Room $1,080 7 nights. (paid by points, but this was the total for the room)

4 people: 44, 42, 13, 11

Fly: $860 (used points so we did not pay for the flights, but have the costs)

8 days/7nights (park tix were non expiring from a previous so no cost for tix)

No DP, out of pocket: $1,045, included 6 TS, 1 signature Breakfast and the rest CS. (half of the expense was paid using points)

25% off room promotion

We booked the Royal Room at the request of DD. Since we used points to pay for most of the trip, it was by choice.

Summary:

Paid: $800 OOP total for the week due to SW flight points and Disney Visa points. It would have cost about $3,500 counting purchases had we not used the points. We booked POFQ with FD for August 2014. The cost quoted for resort, tickets and FD was around $3,100 for 7 night (part will again be offset by points). Add in flights and it would be $4,300 for the week.

I can give you info for 2 different trips, and a 3rd I'm planning, even though at this stage it's just a pipe-dream...

2010 - total cost, including airfare, dining, 7 nights at hotel, 7 day PH: $3,313.90
Deluxe or Moderate (which resort) Deluxe - Wilderness Lodge

number of people including age 2 adults, 1 kid (6 years old)

Fly or drive fly

Length of stay Fri to Fri, 7 nights, 8 days

Promotions I don't remember what it was called - something like Stay 7 nights for the price of 4 or Buy 4 nights, get 3 free?

2012 total cost, including airfare, dining, 8 nights at hotel, 8 day PH: $4,211.21
Deluxe or Moderate (which resort) Deluxe - Wilderness Lodge

number of people including age 2 adults, 1 kid (8 years old)

Fly or drive fly - airfare alone was $454.20 through Southwest (booked by me on a KILLER sale - something like $65 each way - and they were non-stop!, and because of southwest, checked bags for free!)

Length of stay 9 days/8 nights

dining plan or out of pocket dining plan included (we started our vacation a day early to catch free dining!)

Promotions - free dining.

2014
Full price: 4,938.50 + air

Fly or drive fly - airfare is going to be about $152/person each way, which totals out to 911.40, which is about double what it was last trip. Hopefully, I can catch a better sale between now and then if we book it.

Length of stay 8 days/7 nights

dining plan or out of pocket dining plan! I love not having to think about it once we're there!

Promotions - I've priced out full price rack rates, plus 3 possible scenarios, based on educated guesses since promos aren't out for this time period yet: 30% off room (and I've priced out 35% and 40%, but 30 seems most likely), the "Stay, Play, Dine" promo, where adults pay kid prices on park tickets and dining plan, and Free Dining. I'm guessing the announcement for this time period will be out in the next few weeks. Not that I'm obsessively checking at least twice a day or anything. Only a crazy person would do that, and I'm not crazy :rolleyes1.
