We were too impatient to wait for the AP DCA preview weekend to stay in the new hotel, so we drove down last night to check it out.
Very nice! The lobby feels alot like WL in WDW, but everything is very california arts and crafts a la Disney.
Our room was nice, overlooking the new park, but VERY LOUD at night! All night! Loud music from DCA played until 6am. Our room had a queen bed and bunk beds which DS loved. No VCR's in the room and none to rent either was a drag for us, but the "bath" stuff in the room actually smelled good (not like the "victorian" stuff at the GF which I don't like the smell of). Adorable textiles and decor, shower curtain with bambi and friends worked in to the pattern, etc.
The room service was pretty quick (30 min) and quite edible. We had waited for 45 minutes to have dinner at Storytellers Cafe, then gave up and went up to eat in the room. When we checked in for dinner they said it would be 20 minutes, still a lot of kinks in the system.
I think we were the first ones to ever stay in the room, because the frig didn't work and the desk light didn't work and they seemed alarmed when we called to report it.
Weird "big brother" moment - we took an apple juice box from the frig aka mini-bar to give to the baby, opened it, realized it was warm, checked the frig, realized it wasn't working, and when we called down the guy said "And I'll refund you for the apple juice, it must have been too warm to drink." - But, we hadn't told him we had opened an apple juice! The frig has a sensor in each spot that tells them what you took out!!! One wrinkle in the system, DH took out the Hot Tamales to eat, then saw Junior mints next to them, put the tamales back one second later and took the junior mints instead - but when we checked out they had charged us for both. Interesting.
Biggest drag was that the music kept the baby up, and once he finally went down around 4am, the Fire Alarm started going off, every ten minutes for about an hour and a half! They said a steam pipe burst and set it off. Everytime we'd just get the baby back to sleep, it would go off again.
So....beautiful hotel, 100 times better than the old one, but maybe wait a while to visit for them to work out the kinks! We're hoping our Feb. trip will be less eventful. <IMG WIDTH="15" HEIGHT="15" SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif" alt="red face">)
