maybe I will inspire flames, but I am curious. people on this board are always up in arms stating that dvc'ers should "buy where they want to stay." well, I want to stay at SSR, so I bought at SSR. Many posts complain SSR is too condo like and too far away from the parks, so it's not a place they want to stay. But apparently it is a place they want to swim. I have read many posts about people wanting to pool hop to SSR.

well, I feel that why should those of us staying at SSR have to fight against non SSR guests for a space in the pool? SSR isn't good enough for them to stay as a guest, but they can come monopolize our pool?

just a thought?

Wow! I'm kind of torn with this one. We're empty nesters and for ourselves, we do stay where we want to swim. However, in August, we're bringing our whole family, the 4 generations, and I'll bet that the BWV pool with it's animal spray could be a draw for us. DS and DDil want to mostly have resort days, and I do think we'll be pool hopping.

Since so many DVCers do have children with them for the vacations, I would think that the pool hopping privilege is a wonderful perk, and I wouldn't want to see it changed.

I don't think I'd enjoy pool hopping. Travelling with wet shorts just doesn't sound like much fun.

I guess I would have to say :confused3 on this also. I also bought SSR because I really like the layout. The H /C GV was reallllly nice in December when we had a couple rainy days. Now that being said DGrandson will someday be old enough to enjoy SAB and I have no interest in staying at the BC but because of the no pool hopping here DS and DGS will have to stay at the BCV to use the pool. Of course i could buy some extra points at BCV for DGS and then my answer would be yes pixiedust: . Susan

I kind of look at it as "swimming is swimming" and I would never leave the resort I am staying at just to swim at another.

We really enjoy SAB and it is one of the main draws for us to stay at the BCV, so I said yes. In fact, we have even tacked on one extra day just at BCV for SAB and Beaches and Cream alone.

LOL! We go to Beaches and Cream every trip and we NEVER stay at BCV!

We only pool-hopped once while staying at a DVC resort. It was during a stay at OKW (pre pool slide days) and my kids were asking about a slide. We hopped over to the Poly for a day. It was a fun, relaxing day. We drove over, valet parked our car, and spent close to 4-5 hours there----swimming, eating, shopping. Now that OKW has a slide, this hasn't been an issue for us. But I still feel it's a nice DVC perk for those that want to.

Only pool hopped once at the Poly after the Luau. Loved the pool but missed a hot spa.

diane - we must think alike!! If I want to swim elsewhere, Disney has two great water parks!! As angry as I get at VWL when the campers come over and take up space, I wouldn't want to go elsewhere and those guests having the same problem. For me, pool hopping is one of those perks that can go away and I will never notice.

Pool hopping sounds like WAAYYY more trouble than it is worth!!

My dd loves SAB....just one of the MANY reasons we purchased at BCV. While I know many will disagree here...I think pool hopping should be "done away" with all together.

I don't think it is mainly DVC members that actually do this. For many here, it is enough to know that you "could"....kind of how I did a LOT of drinking in my college days before I was 21....after I turned 21, I quit drinking...it was boring, and I could "do it anytime".

I think most pool hoppers are people who stay at hotels with "less desireable" pools and want to visit the amazing pools the deluxes have to offer. I see so many "pool crashers" at SAB everytime I go...I am so glad they "police" this.

I like the fact of knowing, that while SAB may be crowded...it really is only BC/YC guests who are using the pool...it certainly makes not getting a lounge chair easier to deal with. I think every WDW resort ought to go to a wristband system. Seriously, I would not have purchased at BCV if they did not police the pool....that place would just be too crazy.

PS....I'm sorry you feel so "defensive" about your resort. But, that is a good thing....it means you LOVE where you invested your money. This is the same defensiveness that many of us who own at small resorts felt when it was announced that SSR would go from 500 units to 850....we got nervous for our 100 and 200 unit "homes" that we love. In the end, possessiveness can be a positive thing....it reinforces that you made the right decision for you.

NO - but on all my trips to VWL (we hang out at the quiet pool mostly), its very noticeable, maybe because it bothers me so much to see these kids riding over on there bikes and crashing!!! I have nothing against campers, we camp home all the time, but maybe its time for Disney to build a "Cool" pool for the campers, not sure if they have the hot tubs there either, because that seems to be the draw, as to what I have noticed, I enjoy the quiet pool because its quiet, my kids play quietly, etc., but when its over crowded its not quiet anymore!!! I may sound cranky, but I enjoy the peace at that pool, and when the crashers come over, it just bugs me!!

I don't think you should feel bad for being bothered by this at all....it doesn't bother you when you are at the parks....only when it enters your horizon and makes a difference in your enjoyment of the hotel. And WDW KNOWS it happens....I don't know why they "look the other way" at some hotels, and not at others. If I saw a lot of crashers at SAB....I would get SOOO mad....especially if I could not get a chair. I'm telling you, WDW needs to "police" all their resorts, at least for awhile until this gets back under control.

I agree with you 100%! In fact when DH and I read about our new DVC perks and we read about poolhopping, we looked at each other puzzled and both wondered why anyone would even spend the time doing that. To this day it baffles us. I think of it as "pool water is pool water."

Unless of course it's SAB water which we all know has special magical powers. ;) JK

Yeah....the problem is, the only "magical powers" I have found is that it makes you want to "add-on". :rotfl: Well actually, the whole resort does that!!!

Only pool hopped once - to SAB when the BW pool slide was closed. I wouldn't want to stay at SSR, but I don't want to swim their either. The pool has as much attraction for me as the rest of the resort.

I can see hopping to the Poly on a MK day for a swim - or over to VWL, but I'm not sure why I'd go that far out of my way for a pool.

To me, the pool hopping has never been that great of a perk or incentive. We have never pool hopped and don't really ever plan on it.
I guess to each his own......but to us, whichever resort we are staying at, is the one that we swim at.

ETA: Ooppsss.....just realized that I may have just lied......we DID pool hop once a few years ago to the Poly.....I forgot about that! The girls in our group were doing the Alice in Wonderland tea party at the Grand Floridian and the boys in our group were taken over to the Poly for the "cool slide". We have never pool hopped to another DVC resort from a DVC resort.
