Stay out of the *&%n lakes!

If any of you listen to the dis unplugged podcast then I'm sure you've heard Pete Werner sign off telling people to Stay out of the da&n lakes!

I just came across this photo of our oldest taking part in a local Finnish tradition of hitting the sauna for a few hours followed by a dip in the lake. One of his friends family makes it a New Years Day tradition, and he joined them in 2006 - looks like fun, but I'll take a pass.

Anyone else got proof of a crazy accomplishment? They have the annual New Years Day swim in Boston Harbor, probably some lakes as well?

We have what is called the polar bear club. No sauna, but it is tradition on New Years day to jump into lake Michigan. No thank you!

I have a simiular photo that was taken of me. Pretty sure my pic was taken at Blizzard Beach.
I'm not to fond of the ice unless it's in my drink. The closest thing I get to a polar bear club swim is from the hot tub into the swim pool.

They hold the Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics here in NJ at the beach every year. My dh has wanted to participate every year, and came pretty close last year, but a prior committment on the same day made him unable to do it. From what I understand, there's more than 3,700 participants! If he takes part in the plunging this year, I'll be sure to post pics.
