Hi All!

On our last trip in 1999, we went to the 8:30 seating character meal at Chef Mickey's and then went to the rooftop of the Contemporary for the MK fireworks... is this still possible?

Thanks...

yes, the viewing deck is open at the comtemporary. we went out there last week while at california grill.

It is my understandinng that the viewing platforms on the top of the CR are now reserved for the customers at Calif. Grill. You can no longer just go up to see the fireworks unless you are eating at the restaurant. What we do is make priority seating times for during the fireworks and just order dessert. Still pretty expensive.

Thanks for your help - i'll will change my planning them.

A bit disappointed but I understand.

Back in March they did allow viewing from the 4th floor viewing area. It is not open normally, and it is located just where the monorail comes into the bldg. from the MK.

We are planning a dinner at O'hana and then to the CG for viewing the fireworks. Would we be consider patrons if we stopped at the bar and ordered an after dinner cocktail??

i have heard that the roottop viewing was also for guests of cali grill but i can tell you that no one checks if you have reservations or questions you when you get off the elevator...in addition to that, there is never more then a couple of people out there...we have viewed the fireworks from the roof during peak season (xmas 2003 & july 4th 2003) and have never been questioned...

i guess what i would like to know is has anyone every been turned away...

dinner at chef mickeys and fireworks from the roof has been our arrival night tradition the last 5 trips...

I went to the observation platform for the first time last month.I went right about the time the CG opened.I did not go during Wishes. No one said anything to me.In fact, one of the staff asked me if I was looking for the observation deck, and very nicely showed me where it was.WOW!I could not believe the view.I also did not know there are two separate decks. This will be a must-do on all future trips.Let's just keep this a secret.;)

So in other words... Can we order a drink, then go watch the fireworks out on the roof? This was something I was planning on doing in Oct.

The 4th floor balcony is always open. At least it has been for the last 22 years I have been going.

Whoops! I have been going for 30 years (since the park opened) and never knew the 4th floor balconey was always open! Thanks. Anyway, this spring we watched the Fireworks from the top floor after dinner at the CG, and I was sorely disappointed. You couldn't here/understand the Jiminy Cricket dialogue ( which is a BIG part of the FW) and because of the location of the CR ( to the right of the MK) the FW seemed 'off kilter' to me. Had to go to the MK another nite just to see it right!

You can order a drink and then watch the fireworks--but don't count on getting a seat at the bar or lounge. Both are rather small areas and usually quite full.Once people do get seats, they tend to "linger" for some time.I recall one Saturday night when we had to stand for over an hour--not a seat available the whole time.
The swarm of folks coming to the top floor observation area was one reason why they wanted to restrict it to CG customers. There were just too many" fireworks only" guests in what is a very limited space. The area just off the elevators (when you get to the CG ) was often so crowded that you couldn't even move. Often they had a CM "managing" who was getting on each time the elevator arrived at the top--that's how crowded it was.
