I've booked a balcony, resort view room (because that's what I really, really want!) and I'm a SPG Gold member. If an upgrade is available--what would that upgrade to?
we were upgraded to club level on the 12th floor. At first they tried to make us use points, but my husband mentioned we were gold members and they did it for free. there was not a balcony, but boy was the club worth it!!
You all have better luck than me...we have been to the Swan X 3 (twice during very busy times and once when crowds seemed to be much less).... we are SPG Gold too and never got any kind of an upgrade (bummer)....didn't really expect one during the spring break stays, but was hoping for a nice one last November....no luck (seems there was a big group of retired partners from one of the mega CPA firms there and I think all the old guys were hanging out on the balcomies I wanted!!)
Well, last time we got upgraded from a standard room to a balcony/resort view with just a regular SPG. All I have to say is that the Dolphin knows what they were doing because now I HAVE to have a balcony/resort view (if I don't, I'll know what I'm missing!) so I'm willing to pay for the balcony and view now. We're going at Christmas and I just don't want to take a chance so I'm forking over the dough for it. If we get upgraded, I don't want to lose that balcony! But I am curious as to what the next step up is. Anybody willing to tell me what is club like?
Suse--Starwood Preferred Guest is a program that Sheraton/Westin hotels use. Like a frequent flier program for hotels. The Dolphin and the Swan are Sheraton/Westin hotels so it's possible to get an upgrade. The program is free--you just sign up at www.spg.com. Whenever we travel, I try to stay at one of their hotels to help me along at WDW.
