Starting the next generation out on some Disney Photography

Decided I'm going to donate my old crop-sensor body and damaged f/1.4 prime to my oldest daughter and let her do some shooting. It's a light and compact combo she should be able to wield well. The youngest daughter pulled the body/lens off the counter a year or two back and cracked the plastic front part of the barrel so the lens cap doesn't stay on so well. I put it on my D600 today and she still shoots like a beaut. Charging up the battery for the D80 now and Katherine can do some shooting with it. I had forgotten how nice the 50/1.4 D was on the D600. The 50/1.4G is substantially larger like all the G lens.

Gotta clean that front element...

A good way to start her off - the D80 and 50 f/1.4D are both serious cameras, even if they're older (and I know many people who prefer the f/1.4D to the f/1.4G, and not just for size reasons).

My D80 saw regular use for six years until 2013 when I moved up to full-frame. I haven't checked the shutter count on the body lately, but I'm sure it's up there. I'm kinda sad I sold all my Dx glass, but it helped supplement my Fx glass. I'm not about to let a soon to be 9-yr old handle 4-figure glass though.

What an awesome idea! I still have my old canon rebel and my thrifty 50 1.8 somewhere around here. You have inspired me to get it all up and going for my 6 year old who is always dying to use my good camera

Just checked. Only around 30k shutters on it. Barely even broken in.

I think the D80 was rated for 90k. So nicely broken in, but still with most of its usable life ahead of it.

Great idea for an old camera! I love to see young people take interest in photography. Hope she has a blast with it!!
