Haven't flown in a few years.....
Do all Airlines Charge a Fee to Check a Suitcase??

Is Air Tran a good Airlines....comparable, price etc.... to other Airlines ???

THANKS ALL

Using http://www.kayak.com/ you can add in baggage charges to your airfare search. Southwest still has two free checked bags, and JetBlue has the first checked bag free still. pretty much all of the others charge for baggage. But using Kayak.com you can have baggage charges added to your comparison, giving you a more fair comparison of actual costs for the various flights you're comparing. Try it out; I find it a great tool. Plus, Kayak is merely a search engine, not a travel agent, so it'll connect you right to the airline's site if that is the best fare.

As for AirTran, we have flown them in the past, and they're OK. One nice thing is Satellite radio at every seat. One issue a lot of folks have had is that they seem to change around their schedule frequently, tho we have never had trouble on that count.

Good luck!

I've heard of Kayak, I'm gonna check it out.
It's still too bad they all have to charge for luggage now.....

Just want to make sure we get a good deal and a schedule that works for our family.

Have a Disney Day !

They all don't charge for luggage. Didn't you read the pp?:confused3 SW still allows 2 bags and Jet Blue one. A significant number of passengers flying to MCO use one of those airlines.

Does Kayak show SW flights?

You said you haven't flown in a few years. Many airlines charge for seat assignments. Passengers who don't pay run the risk of being separated from the rest of their group. Most airlines have gotten rid of meal service. A few will sell you a meal. Some airlines still offer complimentary soft drinks, others charge.

ALSO, I did know about no food being served.
But, Seat Assignments ????
That's Crazy.....

Oh, the times we live in.

I appreciate your replies. It really helps me.:dumbo::figment:

Spirit is charging up to $45 if you bring a carryon bag that goes in the overhead bin.

You really need to check all the "hidden" fees for whatever airline you're considering before you book.

Where in Michigan are you? I like AirTran for flights to Orlando. However, they are raising their first checked bag fee from $15 to $20 for flights that are purchased after August 16 - for travel beginning Sept. 1.

...Does Kayak show SW flights?
Kayak does not show SouthWest :(, but they do have every other airline, pretty much. So I basically check Kayak, and before choosing anything there, I go to the SouthWest site to see if I can do any better there. Of course, SWA does not fly non-stop from BOS to MCO anyway, so if a non-stop is what I am looking for, I just do Kayak.

Interestingly, last week, i was getting a fare for my Mom, and Kayak showed Orbitz with the better price, better than directly thru the airline, so we went with Orbitz.

But for airfare, I check Kayak first and price in baggage with my tix.

Between Flint, MI and Detroit Metro Airports

The Flint one is soooooo much nicer to get in and out of.

I just checked fares on AirTran for October 23-30 (for example) from Flint to Orlando. They have one early-morning (6:45 a.m.) non-stop to Orlando and one late-night (8:30 p.m.) non-stop from Orlando - in addition to other flights that connect in Atlanta. Detroit will offer more options, but I would also prefer to fly out of the less congested airport. Good luck!

Okay, its been more than a FEW years since you've traveled if you didn't know about no food being served! :)

That went away a LONG time ago!

Based on posts from this board Airtran can also be a notorious schedule changer.

You need to re-read the OP's comment that you quoted about no food being served!

I haven't flown in 4 years, last trip to WDW, so not "that" long ago.
4 years ago we did get snack and a beverage, no big deal if we don't now.
Yes, I understand you can purchase a meal or whatever.

We prefer a non-stop flight since there are 10 of us in our group, with kids.

I did check out flights/rates out of Detroit Metro Airport, I am doing my research and homework.

I have flown out of both airports and the Flint one is very nice.

I'll let you all know what I end up finding........keeping my fingers crossed!!

Thanks DIS'ers !!:tilt::tink:

Careful with SW. They may seem cheaper at times, however checking a flight with USAir plus baggage fees still came under dollar wise less than SW. Also, SW sometimes does not have the best flight times. The kayak site is definitely the way to go.

In the past 18 months I have driven to Flint from Cadillac and flown on Airtran. The airport is very simple to park and get through security. Second perk is that Airtran has a non-stop flight @ 7:00 in the morning and lands @ 9:30 which gives you most of the day to hit the parks. On the return side of things they have an evening non-stop flight that leave MCO around 8:30 pm, which gives you a good portion of the last day to relax. I wouldn't have any other way. Scheduled for October trip the same way. Best of luck
