Grassroots effort here - to start a little "Bring one, take one" lending library on the Fantasy. I am sailing Dec. 3rd 2022 and will try to see if I can leave a little box in the Cove Cafe. IF you are sailing on the Fantasy and would like to bring a book or two to 'donate', please do! It's sort of like the FishExtenders and the Ducks . . not sanctioned by DCL but it should only take up a little bit of space. And if you read a book while on your cruise, or even a magazine, leave it in the Cove Cafe. I'll talk to someone about getting a little space there? Adult and young adult books would be good. There is already a small little lending library on the Magic as of this writing. If you want to start one on the Wonder or Dream, post here! I don't know anything about space on the Wish. Share the news!

I hate not having something to read . . . . Thanks!

Well, I plan to be sort of sleuthy (is that a word?) Guessing no one asked about the Fish Extenders or the random duckies . . . . Might just say "There's a small lending library on the Magic, do you mind if I put a few books/magazines over there in the corner?" Will report back . . . and again, anyone on an upcoming Fantasy cruise who has a spare book to donate, that would be most welcome! I am bringing 5. It's a start!

Unless they are doing a bad job cleaning I would expect it to be removed unless it's given the okay by management.

Fish extenders are there for that specific cruise and ducks are consistently taken away by people when found not left "forever" in a location not designated.

Aren't there books in Cove Cafe? Maybe it would work if done in there? (And then mostly just watching what types of books)

I know there were random books left in Cove Cafe on our Wonder cruises (several years ago). Not an "official" book exchange, just left on the shelves where the newspapers/magazines were. Don't know about the Dream class ships, though.

Thanks I couldn't remember but I definitely remembered seeing books in cove. And that's probably when also! My first Wonder cruise in 2015.

I am going to bring 6 books to put in the Cove Cafe on the Fantasy . . . if anyone else wants to 'donate' or swap books, they will be there at least for the Dec 3rd sailing. Maybe it will take off like it seems to have on the Magic and the Wonder.

It tells me you quoted my post but there is nothing here...
That's due to the problem with the DISboards forum. On many of the boards the 8t, 9th, and 10th posts on each page are not visible to some of us.

Rest assured, when this gets fixed, all the missing posts will show up. Last time it only took about a month for them to figure out what was wrong. It's been about a week and a half so far........

Grr.

I’ll be on the Fantasy Dec 17, 2022 departure and I’ll bring a few books to exchange/grow the the library. Should we include an inscription?

Hi m5877archer! I will report back about finding a little corner or a shelf in the Cove Cafe. Seems the best place for reading material. I am bringing several books and will also leave the magazines that I have finished reading there. I got a little carried away and put a sticker on the cover. But an inscription or something written on a bookmark will do? I am not trying to police what people do with the donated books, but hope they get into the spirit of sharing reading material on a library-less ship (Disney ships used to have small libraries).

I also just noticed that the Hyatt has an “official” lending library, although I had never heard of ANY of the books or authors. It is in the Lobby, way to the right of the check in desk, near the free water. It’s there if you want to donate. I figure that if the Cove “Lending Library” doesn’t work out, maybe the crew would like them?

Thanks Archer! Would be nice to keep it going . . . And 7 days is long enough to read any of the books I am leaving.

This Santa Cruise one, I bought for the cover. I did read it - very much a “beach read”.

Not looking good here on the Fantasy. Even though the Cove Cafe has 3 EMPTY shelves for magazines. Cove said no, but I can ask at Guest Services, which I will do. Tried the Crew angle too. I don’t know if they think books spread Covid? Not looking for an argument. Just too bad for people who bring books on the ship, that there is no option to share OR get another one.

I know on at least one of my cruises, someone just put up a "little library" on their fish message holder for people to trade books.
