Ok, I've posted about this before, but today I actually had it for lunch.

The Basics: This is about the cheapest complete lunch you can find at the Studios. A wedge of a giant foccacia sandwich, "king-size" bag of Frito-Lay chips, and a medium soft drink for $6.99 ($7.45 with tax).
The Sandwich: Today it included Turkey and a soft white cheese (brie, I think), roasted red and green bell peppers, lettuce, and a green spread (either avacado or pesto mayonnaise). The bread is thick and is baked with tomato slices, herbs, and red onions. The sandwich was good, very tasty, and nearly the volume of a Subway 6-inch sub. I believe that I have seen this sandwich made with other meats (ham, for example), but I was not able to verify that today.
The Chips: A "King-Size" bag of chips weighs in at 3 oz, about 50% larger than the bags of chips you get at Subway (why am I comparing this to Subway???) Today they only had Nacho Cheese Doritos, but they offered to substitute a piece of fresh fruit.
The Price: I looked at a reciept from a few weeks ago, and I spent around $7.45 for fish and chips and a cup of ice water at the ABC Commisary, a decidedly less appealing meal, and with tap water to drink. I would definitely recommend the "Sandwich Package" as my reciept calls it, and will have it again next time I'm hungry at the Studios.

Thanks for the tip.

sounds like something my family wold like.

herc.

Second time I've seen you mention it Steve. Hopefully it's in my memory bank now.:D It does sound great.

How are the lines at lunchtime?

But Steve, you left out the most important part, did those %$& birds at Starring Rolls enjoy it??;) :p

Except for the bread and the chips (I'm eating low carb), that sounds wonderful, Steve.

Steve -

Thanks for the info. Starring Roles is a super little place and you can get a slice of grapefruit cake there too!!!

Steve,

Can you get the sandwich without meat in it? I am a vegetarian. Are they premade or made to order?

Thanks

Starring Rolls is between the Brown Derby and Sunset Blvd, just behind Hollywood Junction/Tip Board.
The sandwich is pre-made and served like a cake, but it never hurts to ask. The Cast Members were very helpful and accomodating (offered to substitute fruit for chips, which I didn't even think of asking about.)
I didn't notice any birds.
I was there around 1:30pm and there was no line. The sandwich was mostly bread and veggies, so while a person who doesn't/can't eat meat might get a nice meal with the meat and cheese removed, it wouldn't be worth it the other way around. Very good for those of us who will eat anything that sits still, though. ;)

sounds great, steve! thanks for the tip. :)

Think I'll try this one - just one question - can you get a 'kids plate' of maybe just a plain ham or chicken sandwich, because I know DD wouldn't even try this. Tried to look for a menu on Deb Will's site but this one isn't listed.

Think we'll go for an early lunch here after EMH - anyone know the opening times?

Also is there seating available?

Sorry - that was more than one question!

This is the only sandwich offered at Starring Rolls, as it is primarily a bakery. They do have a varied selection of pastries, cakes, pies, and desserts, as well as fruit, soft drinks, and coffee. There is patio seating available. I believe Starring Rolls opens at 9am, as they serve danishes and cinnamon rolls.
