What is this exactly? I've never heard of it but it sounds cool.
It's a show where kids in the audience get to come up on stage and learn to be Jedi Knights. At first the "Jedi Master" comes out and does a light saber routine, and then he and his assistant invite ~15 kids from the audience (ages 5-12 usually) up on stage to be "Padawans". They are given a brown robe to wear and a plastic light saber. (Sometimes just watching them put on the robe is really funny!)
Then the Jedi Master slowly teaches them the pieces of a light saber routine (with appropriate improvisational/funny comments) and they practice that.
Then all of a sudden there's the ominous Star Wars music, and two stormtroopers appear on stage, followed by (gasp!) Darth Vader. The Jedi Master tells him he's wasting his time, and the kids will never turn to the dark side, and then each of them "challenges" Darth Vader to a light saber duel, using the routine they have just learned. Fortunately the Jedi Master is standing right there (but not too close!) to coach them and tell them what move to do. The guy playing Darth has his hands full to block the moves...some of them hit pretty hard with that plastic light saber! It is so funny to watch the kids go through the moves - some of them do pretty well, but the younger ones are usually pretty clueless, but it's so cute to watch them try!
The Jedi Master keeps things moving - supporting and encouraging the kids, but also with a patter that is entertaining for the adults to listen to - the actor needs to not only be good with kids but also have some improvisational skills.
Once all the kids have faced Darth, he gives up and goes away, taking his stormtroopers with him. The kids get a certificate or medal or something for participating, and a nice hand from the audience, and the show is over.
The kids (especially the boys) seem to just LOVE this. I had a good time just watching it.
