We are heading to DL for the first time the week of August 14th. I was just wondering if the star wars ride and space mountain would be too scary for my DS who is 4 and a half. I know it depends on your kid but since I don't have anything similar to compare it too, I was just wondering how other parents made out with these rides.
Thanks kindly, I love this forum, it has helped me plan and gotten us soo excited!!
Only 24 more sleeps!!

We haven't ridden the new Star Tours yet. DD6 loves SM (and loved the one at WDW at 5 also), but DD4 hated it (she's scared of the dark), but she made it through and didn't cry. I fully intend on taking her on ST next month!

Both girls love BTMRR, DD6 hated ToT at 5, so I haven't made her ride it again or even tried to get DD4 to ride it.

My 4 year old daughter did both when she was old/tall enough. She also wanted to do ToT. My wife won't even do that! :lmao: I do not feel the rides are that intense, but respect those who do feel that.

We let her "test the waters" and listen to her share what she feels... if my daughter wants to go on a ride I try to be postive about the notion and not project feelings (scary)... I let her share in her words the experience and I just listen. Also if she ever backs out or does not like the ride/stage show - being called out on stage... we are positive about that too.

Regardless, it is a great dilema to have (going to DL) and I am jealous. I am sure you will have a fun.... all of you! :thumbsup2

This is the way to go. Don't show up with an idea that she will like this or that. Share things fun with her and see how she likes or dislikes it to decide if attraction with similarities will be ok.

:thumbsup2 I agree, that's the best way to go. Growing up my Mom used to tell me I couldn't go on things because it would hurt my stomach real bad. Well then I was always scared to go on things. Still am a big chicken, but I'm getting over it slowly. Best to let kids decide for themselves what they like and what they don't!

Your daughter may not be tall enough yet- mine was 6 before she could ride

Welcome to the Dis boards!!:flower3: We just came back from a trip to DL and rode the new ST ride. We did not ride Space as I am a complete chicken and like the above poster said, I think it had a lot to do with my mom telling me I would be too scared on a ride - she was probably the chicken then!!:lmao: The thing with ST is that if he gets scared - which I don't think he will - its all things cool to a boy - shooting, racing, blowing asteroids up etc. the best thing is just tell him to close his eyes. The ride still moves and he could still hear things but it would eliminate one aspect. Also, the ride is very short and will be over before he knows it - if he is scared.:3dglasses Have a wonderful trip!! BTW - my suggestion is to make sure you get a fastpass and go back later to ride. We never stood in the 50min. line for it. Also be prepared that when you use a fast pass for ST that the you get to skip alot of the line but there is still a lot of line to stand in when you go in - we stood in about a 20-30min line inside with a FP. Have a magical time!:wizard:
