Star Wars Galactic Cruiser to become Walt Disney Imagineering Offices

According to The Wrap, multiple sources, including one close to the company, report that the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser building near Disney's Hollywood Studios is being converted into office space for Walt Disney Imagineering.

The facility, once home to Disney's most ambitious themed entertainment experience, will now serve as a base for the creative division behind theme park attractions, retail locations, and cruise ships.

This report follows comments made by Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D'Amaro in a 2023 interview with The Points Guy. When asked about the future of the Galactic Starcruiser building, D'Amaro said, "No hints yet, but something will happen." He acknowledged that while the project pushed creativity and storytelling to new heights, "It didn't work commercially. And so, when we realized that, you just make a call and move on." It appeared at that point that D'Amaro was suggesting a guest-facing use of the building, but that plan appears to have now changed.

Maybe that will help to empty some of those buildings behind RnR, Star Wars Launch Bay, etc., so they could use the buildings/land for expansion of DHS.

The whole thing was a waste.
Should have just made it a regular resort with a themed meal.
Would have brought in money like the rest of the resorts.

But I agree with PP if its gonna free up space for HS expansion.

This is just like Nickelodeon Studios at Universal..... 'cept Nickelodeon Studios had CHARM and wasn't marketed towards some incredibly niché audience.

Reading between the lines on some of the reports this is sort of a big slap in the face to Disney's Star Wars Empire. IMHO the Galactic Starcruiser is a great reminder that Disney makes mistakes, sometimes huge ones.

It says in the original article that it'll be used for several projects, including Monsters.

WDI will be using the building as a hub for several expansion projects coming to the expansive Walt Disney World resort including (among other things) the Latin America area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom that will be home to “Encanto” and Indiana Jones-themed attractions; the upcoming “Cars”- and Disney Villains-themed lands opening at the Magic Kingdom; and the “Monsters, Inc.” land, complete with door chase coaster, arriving at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. (That “Monsters, Inc.” coaster is perhaps the most controversial, because it calls for the removal of Jim Henson’s beloved final project – Muppet*Vision 3D.)

What I read is the actual space where the offices used to be will be used for Monsters.

There are no backstage buildings where Monsters is going. All that's behind what is currently Muppets Courtyard is part of the CM parking lot. The office building you're probably thinking of is by Star Wars Launch Bay/Animation Courtyard. This was the possible other location for Monsters, but, alas, Disney decided to replace Muppets and save this space for something else.
